Three letters. S. P. A.
These three letters have the power to transport me to an immediate state of relaxation. And that’s where I found myself last weekend at the Halcyon Spa.
It was our third time staying at Halcyon House, a boutique hotel in northern NSW (and it most definitely won’t be our last) but checking in this time, knowing that the hotel now had a spa made it all the more exciting.
For me.
Leaving the husband in our room to an afternoon of football on the TV and a couple of beers from the free mini bar, I trotted down the lift and into my own version of a perfect Saturday afternoon.
The two-level spa, adjacent to the main hotel building opens to a reception and boutique featuring Anna Spiro’s signature styling and soft-furnishing superiorness.
Anna is the Brisbane interior designer behind the entire look of Halcyon Hotel, bringing personality at every turn. In the hotel, it’s mostly about every shade of blue.
In the spa, you’ll find this signature blue plus also colour-themed treatment rooms – everything from green, to pink to mustard – and all in between.
What a spa looks and feels like, the space, the natural light, all combine to take the entire experience next level. And when you combine a beautiful space with incredible products and treatments, it’s a blissful match made in spa heaven.
That’s what I found at Halcyon Spa, one of the best spas I’ve ever had the pleasure in indulging in.
Halcyon Spa offers treatments using Sodashi products. I’ve talked a lot about Sodashi over the years – this Australian-based skincare range offers the most luxe chemical-free products. Everything is so nourishing – and good for you.
I’d been booked by Halcyon Spa and Sodashi to experience a Halcyon signature radiance facial. I’d had a chemical peel earlier in the week, so this was the ideal hydrating treatment for my skin that was still in recovery mode.
Spa director Alessandra absolutely worked her magic, massaging me into a low-level, snoring blissed-out happy mess of a woman, and adding a special glow to my skin.
The spa also offers a range of massage and body therapy treatments, as well as foot, hand, scalp and hair treatments, manicures, pedicures, waxing and tinting. Arrive early for your treatment and take advantage of the steam room.
If you’re lucky enough to live locally, then treatments are 15% off Monday-Thursday, and up to 50% off for last minute treatment times, via the Locals Love weekly email.
Want to make a day of it (but aren’t able to stay overnight at the hotel)? Treat yourself to the Halcyon Hang package (subject to availability):
- Lunch at award winning Paper Daisy (2 course menu, excludes beverages)
- Halcyon House pool pass and bar access
- Halcyon Spa 60 minute massage and steam room access
- Halcyon House bicycle and surf board use
- Direct beach access
- Complimentary on-site car parking
The afternoon I was there, three friends came out of their treatments just before I was about to come in. They were spending the afternoon together ahead of one of the girls’ imminent baby arrival. The looks on their faces said it all: total bliss. They’d dined at the hotel’s Paper Daisy restaurant beforehand and no-one seemed keen to return to “normal” life, post-treatment.
Just quietly, I wasn’t keen either. But at least I only had to go up a couple of flights of stairs to continue my time in the Halcyon “bubble”.

We we’re lucky enough to stay in the stunning Halcyon House last year for a couple of nights, still dreaming about the breakfasts. A beautiful, interesting and eclectic hotel. You’re lucky to live close by. Pauline
