In a little more than a week, I will have reached my much talked about (by me) milestone birthday.
Like the milestones that have come before it, I’m quite ok with the number. My life is good.
Yes, in 50 years I’ve faced my fair share of challenges but overall life is VERY good.
I’m grateful for my health, my family, my home and this “job” that I created from nothing – a job that allows me to indulge in my greatest passions – fashion and beauty.
I get excited by all things new in the fashion world and I get excited about all things new in the beauty industry.
I’ve also long passed the days when beauty treatments and products are all just about the pampering.
I want bang for my buck. I want results AND the self-care.
So when Demalogica contacted me about experiencing its new Overnight Retinol Repair 1% product (rrp $148) – and its accompanying IonActive in-salon treatment, I took about 2.4 seconds to say YES PLEASE.
I’ve long had respect for the Dermalogica skincare brand. Its products are targeted to address your specific concerns. I’ve used other products in the Dermalogica AGE smart range and loved how they feel on my skin, as well as the results they bring.
I do get it, though. Not everyone is looking for results that help to slow the aging process on their skin. And that’s very OK. Me? I’m unashamedly vain and I’ll take any help I can get. HAH.
Jokes aside, I need to tell you about this new product – especially if you fall into the same vanity skincare category that I do.
Dermalogica Overnight Retinol Repair 1% is a highly concentrated, night-time treatment cream, offering clinical-strength results in a formula that supports and doesn’t compromise your skin’s health.
About Dermalogica Overnight Retinol Repair 1%
- This formula contains Retinol – a pure and powerful form of Vitamin A.
- Vitamin A helps to smooth and firm skin, reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and uneven skin tone.
- Retinol can work on all ages and skin types – it’s a powerhouse ingredient that helps with anti-aging but also clogged pores.
- It works to speed up the skin cell renewal process that slows down as we age.
- Other ingredients in Overnight Retinol Repair 1% that help your skin include: squalene from Brazilian sugar cane (restores skin moisture and suppleness); Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5 and TAUT peptides (to stimulate collagen synthesis); active polysaccharides (to hydrate help soften fine lines); liquorice extract (calms irritation and provides antioxidant power).
- This product comes with a buffer cream, allowing you to introduce it gradually to allow your skin to adjust and acclimatise to the Vitamin A.
- There are lots of retinol products on the market but their effectiveness can be lessened because they lose their potency once exposed to light or air. Overnight Retinol Repair 1% was developed using advance microencapsulation technology. In short, this helps keep the retinol stable and deliver it to the skin in an even and measured way.
- Retinol stimulates skin cell turnover – which we want – but it does also make your skin more susceptible to UV damage. Always use a sunscreen during daylight hours while using retinol products.
My thoughts: I’ve been using Overnight Retinol Repair for about two weeks now. I’ve already noticed an improvement in the smoothness and freshness of my skin. The hard work happens overnight and when I wake up each morning, I’m seeing a gradual difference every day.
IonActive in-salon treatment with Dermalogica Overnight Retinol Repair 1%
Because of its clinical strength formula, Dermalogica Overnight Retinol Repair is only available in consultation with a professional skin therapist at a Dermalogica spa or skin centre (find one near you here).
I was lucky to super-charge my retinol experience by trialling the IonActive treatment, which includes a professional form of 1% retinol at The Paddington Beauty Room in Sydney. This is seriously my kind of treatment. It takes just 45 minutes; there is a specialised face massage technique that helps infuse the retinol and is incredibly relaxing; and an LED mask light session that leaves your face glowing.
It’s all about stimulating and changing the skin, rather than just the pampering but I still managed doze off – even with my photographer in the room.
You don’t need to have the IonActive salon treatments to get results from Overnight Retinol Repair but it very much does help boost its results.

I need this product in my life!
I only have about 30 minutes left before the competition closes because as with most things in life, I’m always late. This has included looking after my skin! I’m in my early 40’s and I recently started using Dermalogica and love it. I would love to try more of their products, especially one that will help with my skins texture and appearance. Oh, and my poor clogged up (not so little any more – thanks ageing, you’re a gem!) pores. PLUS, I’m off on holidays to a tropical paradise in 3 months time for a friends wedding and would really love my skin to be glowing!

My tired mum skin would love a retinol boost?
I would love to try this as am similar age just a couple years older than you Nikki and hope to get same results
I would love for my exterior to reflect how I feel internally and how I behave so this would be wonderful!
I’ve been trying to find a product that can help my aging skin as well as deal with my still troublesome breakouts! At the age of 42! I find it hard to get a product that nourishes without making oily and produce breakouts. I think I need some assistance! (;
At 42, my skin is showing its vulnerability to ageing and short bursts of sun exposure from living in Queensland. I protect my skin everyday, but my skin’s frailty’s and fine lines are becoming more and more visible. Dermalogica’s Overnight Retinol Repair 1% product would greatly improve my skin.
A Dermalogica Overnight Retinol Repair boost will enlighten a stunning glow
Individual beauty, femininity and individuality I could proudly show
Healthy indulgence amidst nourishing revitalisation just for skin
Creating a shimmer of confidence, unique that sparkles from within.
I have noticeable pigmentation on my face which I’d love to remove entirely, or at least, brighten my skin and lighten the pigmentation, so that the effect is a much even-toned look…..similar to the flawless base I achieve with my primer…at 47, I need that little bit of extra self-confidence that comes with lovely skin. – [email protected]
I want to look human again with vibrant healthy skin!
I am very passionate about looking after my skin ,love to try new products. Still haven’t found a product that does what is says ladyluck to everyone .
Dermalogica Overnight Retinol Repair 1% boost would help my skin wake with excitement! Knowing my skin was looking younger would make me laugh louder, dance longer and live more extraordinarily than the day before!
I would appreciate every wrinkle I have being minimised….even a little bit!
After a 7 year flare of an auto immune disease, and having two children in the middle there as well, I am definitely looking my age! I AM the oldest school mum at my sons’ school, but do I have to look it as well?! I think not, so I need some help!
So many women with great reasons to win this opportunity. I would love the chance too. I have never in all my nearly 57years experienced a beauty salon let alone one as reputable as Dermalogica.
I’d love to show a bit more glow
It would be fine to lose a line
A time for confidence in my appearance
Yes! A plan to commit with ease of adherence
Please let it be
A chance for a new me
I recently turned 55 and am finding that the aging process is happening all too fast the last few years. I am also quite vain and have been looking for something that might help slow down the aging process that seems to be happening at a fast rate.
Oh I recently turned 55 and also am very vain and am finding it harder to keep my face looking younger than my age. It just seems like everything is aging very fast the last few years. So as I work in retail and have 2 grandchildren, I try hard to keep the sagging and wrinkles at bay.
After just hitting fabulous forty extra attention to my skin is needed! I have just realised I am ageing externally though I feel younger on the inside. Who doesn’t love a little TLC when you have two boys 4 & 6, and the youngest has special needs.
I think we all deserve to feel the best we can at any age and for me some of that is looking after my skin. I love the ritual of a good skincare routine. At almost 50 my skin is showing the wear and tear of a life lived in oz – sagging, pigmentation and lines. I need skin care that’s the real deal – not the promise of false hope. I’ve used Dermalogica for years – more recently the age smart range so know their products are great quality – but haven’t tried their retinol products. I’d love to give it a go and see if a more targeted product helps firm up and even out my skin tone, giving me back some of that elusive glow!
As the song goes “I was blind but now I see”. Have just had an expensive eye procedure which means I no longer need to wear glasses. Good news I hear you say! Hmmm except now I can see that all those ‘fine’ lines I have around my 56 year old face are actually not so fine (actually quite deep in places) and I can no longer hide those lines around my eyes behind my glasses! How wonderful it would be to have the chance to try the Dermalogica products. It would be the ‘try before you buy’ experience ever xx
I don’t think a deserve it more than any of these ladies. I guess my story is i have a 20yr old a 15 year old and a 1 year old. Yes you read that right. Im im my mid 40’s and so i am the old lady at playgroup and the park. Somedays i do feel it but i would love my skin to reflect how i feel. Happy and most days youngish. I hate how that mirror tells me I’m not.
I do love dermalogica products and have used their products in the past. Unfortunately my budget doesn’t allow for that now or any other self indulging luxuries like facials.
I too turned 50 this year and am desperate to halt this runaway ageing train. I’m using a variety of products but to no avail and think it’s time for some big guns!
I have just turned 60 and whilst I still feel 30 I now look in mirror and see my skin is ageing. The products would be beneficial to my skin especially the Vitamin A component. I still have a lot of living to do in this skin so it’s time I took care of it.
Just turned 40, and after 7 months of treatment for breast cancer, my skin could do with a boost. X
aT 83 AND STILL BEING VAIN, i NEED TO HAVE MY SKIN LOOKED AFTER. i MOISTURISE NIGHT AND MORNING, AND STILL GET LINES.
Just finished breastfeeding baby 2 and after nearly 18months of not using any active skincare my skin changes have been major. Need a gamechanger to get me back on track!!
Living in Melbourne my skin always takes a battering in winter as the days get cooler and I spend more time inside exposed to central heating. It would be great to give my skin a renewing boost and get some smoothness back as well as a post-facial treatment glow to get through winter.
When I was younger at 15 I always looked older, around 18 – 21 which was helpful! Then all through the years as I became older I always received comments that I looked much younger, which was flattering! At around 50 though
everything met in the middle and I now wear my life on my face in the form of facial lines!
Dermalogica Overnight Retinol Repair 1% could be my new bestie!
I am the face of my 52 year old person. She tries so hard to look after me, however with Irish parents, many years in the harsh Aussie sun without proper protection and haphazardly using a variety of skin care products, we are really starting to stare down the barrel of dehydration and crinkles. Dermalogica, please help me help her slow the clock down with some much needed Overnight Retinol Repair 1% boost!
My skin is really starting to show its age. I can’t fool beauty professionals that I’m younger than my birthdate anymore. The lines and damage are really starting to show. I believe Dermalogica Overnight Retinol Repair 1% boost will slow and then repair the damage on my face and neck.
Like Nikki I’m experiencing a double number change this year (although my number is larger than her’s) and my son is getting married later this year and I would love my skin to look its very best so I look and feel confident, after all those photos are going to be around for a long time.
My skin is suffering the classic skin creep
The small lines, the change in texture, pigmentation and just the little changes that the joys of aging brings.. I’m all for a product that does its best work while I sleep and if It can slow down the process of aging i need to give this a go
My skin could reduce it’s fine lines – for fifty I’m not too bad but those lines need some attention! And best of all my skin could be cleared of sunspots. The unfortunate result of a 1970s childhood on the beach. My aunt used to chase me with the zinc cream but we always escaped, laughing. Not laughing now!
I’m now 55 and have started to notice the tell tale signs of ageing….. I just got glasses so I think everyone else has been noticing the wear and tear a lot earlier! It would be good to start off with something recommended and Dermologica has a sound reputation. I thought I’d be ok with ageing gracefully but no ….. I’m vain too!
My big 50 is just around the corner and I recently noticed my skin is becoming quite loose around the jowls along with thinning and age spots. HELP!!!!!
Love Dermologica and have been a long time user. Have now progressed to the Age smart range , my skin would benefit I think as I have fine lines starting to appear around my eyes and lips and forehead. And I really want to age gracefully and I’m hoping that maybe the new Retinol treatment would help.

After years as a Sports Coordinator and teacher working in the hot sun in the Northern Territory where the UV Index regularly sits around 8+ (very high), my skin has aged considerably despite covering up and using sunscreen. Having relocated to SE Qld I have embarked on a series of IonActive treatments to try and reverse the damage. Dermalogica have an expansive range of products for all skin types and already I am seeing a reduction in pigmentation. I would love to try the new retinol product to encourage increased collagen production. Thank you Dermalogica and Styling You for such a great opportunity.
Ladies, if you haven’t started a targeted skin care routine, please book in for a free Face Mapping consultation with your local Dermalogica salon. The only regret you’ll have is that you’ll wish you’d booked in sooner!

My skin on the left before Dermalogica.
I’ve long been a fan of Dermalogica products and love their Age Smart Range.
Wondering though how the new Retinol overnight repair would go on my really sensitive skin!
Like Nikki, I have that same milestone birthday approaching. While getting my eyebrows tended to, I always browse the Dermalogica products and wonder if I should make the leap. I think it is time – I just need a little prompting. The Age Reversal Eye Complex sounds like the miracle I need right now!
