MBFWA Backstage Beauty: Maybelline NY for Next Gen 2

There’s a very different atmosphere on site for the final day of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia.

There’s a sense of making it over the finishing line.

Without too many stumbles or catwalk boob flashes. Oops … too late … that happened to one poor model today in the New Generation 2 show when the double-sided tape lost its effectiveness just as she was about to walk the runway.

Once again this show offered up an eclectic mix spring-summer fashion. Hints of all the predicted trends, from neons through to prints, structure and a flowy, it was all there.

Here are just some of the looks that caught my eye:

Let’s talk about the makeup because it was just so damn beautiful. Maybelline New York makeup artist Nigel Stanislaus created a very pretty 1950s Audrey Hepburn look with a strong brow emphasis and lots of lovely pink.

(I’ll upload the video tomorrow – the tech gods are not working for me right now!)

Nigel’s hot tip for translating this look to the everyday: It’s all about the contrast of the strong eyebrows and pink, which Nigel tells me is the secret to creating a fresh, younger-looking face. He told me this model was actually 65 😉

The key product: Maybelline New York EyeStudio Master Shape Brow Pencil ($11.50 out in July). You fill in the brow with upward and outwards strokes before using the brush applicator to brush the brows up. Another way to keep your face looking younger!

This is definitely a look you could simply copy and try at home, isn’t it? I’ll certainly be slapping on the pink lippy more often!

  1. I loved the make up for the NewGen 2 show, it just looked so fresh. I have a lot of respect for the models, she didn’t even flinch when the jacket flew open, just went for it. I guess they are used to it, but she was just ‘in the zone’.

It was lovely to get to meet you! I’m sorry I’m so shy 😛

  2. Yes Nikki will be trying this look at home that’s for sure,it does look easy and I already DO favour a pink lip ,must be cause it makes me look younger lol.The brows, that is something i wasn’t blessed with nice full ones so i fill them in with brow powder that is one thing I could not live without cause it does make you look better ,Younger not so sure! but won’t be giving it up any time soon.
If that model is 65 well that makes about 105 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
