I’m not a Fashion Week regular. I’m an aspiring Fashion Week regular, yes, but I’m surrounded by veterans who by Day 3 have well and truly got their Fashion Week rhythm down pat.
Me, I’m getting there. Just remembering all the various chargers required for my mobile office is stressful enough, let alone trying to look vaguely put together …
Anyway, I digress. As you know, I’m here blogging for Maybelline, which means you head backstage about 1.5 hours before a show, wait for a model from the show to have her face finished and interview the fabulous Nigel Stanislaus about the look.
Sounds simple, doesn’t it?
And, in essence, it is. But as beauty media, we are just one part of the madness backstage and we have to fit in with the hair, nail and makeup teams. For some backstages that really is a tight fit, too!
This morning it was the gorgeous Alice McCall showing her upcoming spring-summer collection, entitled Babooshka. The inspiration came from Russian babushka dools and Hungarian folk art.
There was lots of colour – from pastels to brights, including a warm tangerine, which I LOVED (yes, my orange obsession is showing no signs of abating!). I don’t think I’ll be wearing one of her onesies this summer but I was very much taken with the detailing Alice incorporated. I can see me translating that into next-season’s wardrobe.
What I also loved about this show was how the hair and makeup look worked seamlessly together … the brief was spot on.
Catwalk to Sidewalk:
Nigel says we need to re-introduce blue to our makeup regime, what do you think?
And for this look, he ran the blush across the bridge of the nose … a look that that says “I’ve just come back from a ski trip”.
His tip though: avoid the bottom of the nose. You’ll just look like you’re doing a Telfast commercial (can you tell I’m having a lot of fun with this man?!)

She was tagged on FB in the Shop Car being driven from venue to venue. bTW she & my nephew had their wedding look & actual wedding in this month’s Madision.
