Today we went (what in Fashion Week terms is known as) “off-site”. In real terms this means heading somewhere away from the craziness of the main hub that is Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia.
Yes, it involved a 10-minute cab ride to Potts Point but the atmosphere was more boutique-y. I like that.
Showing was designer Michael Lo Sordo, who offered up a spring-sumer 2012-13 collection that was super feminine and mostly wearable. A couple of the girls could have done with putting on a bra but what’s the odd nipple show-through between front-row guests?
With exquisite tailoring in many of the pieces, I could see florals creeping into office wear for young – and young-at-heart – girls this spring. Here is one of my favourites.
Maybelline makeup artist Nigel Stanislaus complemented the “lush” floral prints and block-coloured garments that featured a stunning juxtaposition of opaque and sheer with a sheer, fresh makeup look.
Note, there was no mascara used to keep the faces looking fresh.
Nigel’s hot tip for translating that to everyday: use a mascara but gently coat only the upper outer lashes. Pheww. No way was I giving up my lashes’ best friend.
The key products used in the show included Maybelline FITme! Liquid Foundation ($18.95) – a foundation that creates a fresh, dewy base from which to work a dreamy look.
Do you like a fresh, dreamy makeup look? Could you ever leave the house without mascara?

Thanks to Maybelline NY Australia, I’m blogging at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia all week. Come back each day for my take on what we’ll be wearing – on our face and ourselves – next spring-summer.

Nice fresh dewy look happening there. Looks a little naked without mascara but fresh and youthful just the same.
I don’t wear makeup most days because I’m lazy and have fabulous skin ;-p But if I’m feeling washed out I always put on mascara and eyebrows (I was an overplucker in the 70s).
YOUR makeup looked fabulous Nikki, Loved that pic of you freshly made up. Nice to see the earrings in action too.
Enjoy and it’s fabulous living the MBFWA vicariously through you because you tell it like it is 🙂
Thanks Gillian, that’s the aim … it’s so easy to get caught up in the fashion week hype but lots of the hype means nothing to the real world. Big day tomorrow!
