It’s that crazy time of year when the fashion seasons are a changing but we’re still in our swimsuits.
And because I’m one for getting way too excited by the tag “new”, I’ve come over all giddy in the past week as emails have landed in my inbox offering me some “sneak” peeks into the fashion season ahead.
Some may call this an obsession. I call it research.
See, there’s method in my madness … if I start my research now, I can best plan how my winter wardrobe is going to look. And I can harness the power of the layby as I won’t be able to wear most things I buy in February or March until May.
That’s my kind of budgeting.
Anyways, here are five autumn 2012 looks I’m quite keen to take a squiz at when they arrive in store.
I think, yes … I CAN really embrace the “wearing a blanket” trend. And I will do coloured jeans. I will. The new Country Road collection will be in store and online from February 2.
This frock is actually already for sale. It has my trans-seasonal tick of approval because it can be worn now and with leggings or tights when things start to cool down. Easy care and easy wear too. Tick. Tick.
I posted a hint of this new collection up on Facebook last week because I know a lot of Styling You readers are big Metalicus fans. I am too. I wisely choose key pieces that work for my body shape and each season I always stock up on more layering pieces. I’ve got my eye on this tunic as I can wear it now without tights and really layer it up as it cools down. The new collection will be in store Wednesday, January 25.
A girl’s got to have a new bag for a new season, don’t they? Please back me up on this (and don’t send this post to my husband). I’ve already fallen for this Nancybird luxe everyday tote. Word on the street has it we’ll be seeing a lot more Nancybird featuring in the next season of Offspring. The new Nancybird collection will be in store next month.
I’m not quite sure why this lovely lass is chewing the pussy bow but, in any case, I am in love with silk shirt. This is a trend you’ll see this season and it’s a lovely one because wearing a shirt like this is all sheer and sexy and feminine, so it’s perfectly paired with a pair of tailored trousers and heels for a glitzy night out or jeans and ballet flats for winter’s lunch with girlfriends. It’s all about the contrast, Stylers. The new French Connection collection will be in store next month.
What do you think? Which of these autumn looks can you see yourself in?
PS. Come over and see what I’ve been blogging about on Justb. with the fabulous Pip Lincolne.

Love some of these, especially the Ruby dress. For someone short and chunky would you suggest wearing it with flats or wedges, now and that what best in winter? Appreciate any suggestions! 🙂

Flats and wedges now, Tash and in winter wear with black opaque tights and black ankle or knee-high boots.
I got a blankety thing from seed in a sale last year (or summer the year before or something like that). It was so GOOD. It looked super stylish, felt super comfy, was easy to throw on, and covered up the effects of comfort eating. I lent it to a fashion designer friend one rainy night and didn’t see it for weeks – had to finally go get it back! So totally go the blanket. Not sure I can justify another blanket in the wardrobe – but I can definitely justify some more tunics. BTW Thanks Nikki for your advice on leggings the other day.

Don’t you hate it when you lend your clothes and they don’t appear for weeks?! Glad you got it back and no probs on the leggings advice. x
Ahh the Leona Edmiston dress is cute beyond words. Love, love, love.
Author
Isn’t it? Cute and adaptable for so many looks.
I’m quite in love with it actually. It’s a dress for all seasons, which is my favourite kind.
Oh and I just looked at the price, this dress is going to become a reality for me next Thursday, pay day. Tad excited about this.
Mind you, I am supposed to be saving for my Eurotrip this year but I actually think this is something I can take over with me so I’m going to say it’s a justified purchase… 😉
Have a fab weekend Nikki!
PS. Leona Edmiston on my backpacking adventure for some glam… AB-SO-LUTE-LY.
Aww, how pretty! I really like the first outfit (“wearing a blanket”), and guess what, I have one of these in cream color, and my Hubby just asked me the other day why on Earth I was wearing a blanket. Haha 😀

Men just don’t get it!
The sheer blouse (with a cami underneath) is definitely ME. Glad to see layering / tunics & tights are still big too!

Don’t think they’ll go away, Janet … a practical and stylish way to dress when it gets colder.
I can see myself in that Leona Edmiston dress. (I very nearly sold her a dog once but that’s another story!) But do we really need to be thinking about autumn now? Really? I’m still waiting for summer. When will it start???
Author
Sorry about that, I can’t control the way the fashion industry works! It’s crazy. Best to look for trans-seasonal things that can be layered (if you’re looking to inject anything new into your wardrobe).
A woman after my own heart.

Fashion love together x
No! No! I can’t face thinking about Autumn yet. Summer is only just started here in Sydney! (but I reckon I can embrace the blanket-wearing for the colder months!)
Author
LOL. Me neither … but I’m wardrobe planner so I like to see what I might be interested in buying.
The CR hat has my vote! I would be very happy in the Ruby as well.
This Autumn I will be continuing with my leggings / tunics / dresses staple style only with longer leggings and heavier tunics. x
Author
The Ruby would definitely work with leggings. And I can see me in the hat too … might be a little to over the top for Saturday soccer games but it would be sun smart!
Loving the CR jeans. I recall owning a pair of cords in a similar colour sometime in the late 70’s. My friends and I all had different coloured cords that we would all wear at the same time- typical teenagers, same but different (we thought)!

Pity we never held on to them! Coloured jeans will be everywhere again this season.
Hmmm…How many jeans would still fit 40 years later?
Author
True! I was delusional there for a while!
I love aututmn. I especially love autumn fashion. I love the country road outfit, so hippie sheek!
Author
Yes, I can see me wearing that Country Road style pretty easily on weekends and home days during the week.
Love the CR jeans. Want.

Stunning colour!
Loving the country road look. love the colours.
I saw the other day that Verily has a very similar looking dress to the metalicus one. have you seen it?
Author
The colours are gorgeous! I hadn’t seen the Verily one but just checked Leonie’s site, she’s got a lot of dresses on sale: http://www.verily.com.au/shoponline.html?page=shop.browse&category_id=1
I saw it on her Facebook page.
and now… I’m contemplating cashing in on the end of season sales… I mean its my birthday in ten days after all 😉
Author
Very deserving then!
Love the colour of those country road jeans! Have had a Leona edmiston dress that I have worn all summer and is so easy care. And one can always do with a little “Nancy” in her wardrobe!
Author
I’m definitely doing coloured jeans for autumn-winter … the easy-care factor of Leona’s dresses gets me every time and yes, totally agree re a little Nancy 😉
I can see myself in the Leona edmonston and have already checked it out online. I love the CR blanket look too, It will hide many, many sins!
Author
It’s gorgeous … and yes, I will be checking out the CR blanket when it lands in store … hopefully suits me. I get these “visions” in my head and sometimes they just don’t work out!
Love the dress and the silk blouse. What a pleasant start to Friday, Nikki! Big ticks! 🙂
Author
It’s gorgeous … and thanks Jill. Have a great weekend.
Great post Nikki 🙂 I too get pumped when the next season’s offering are teasingly shown to us nice and early. Planning is key to getting your look figured out so hasty and ultimately bad purchases aren’t made! I’m loving the silk shirt trend, will definitely be getting on board and French Connection looks to be a great place to start. The wearing a blanket trend will be much trickier for me… I do believe there is actually a minimum height requirement for this look, I could just look homeless if this shorty attempts, sigh.
Author
I believe you’re right, Tess and I suspect I’ll get in store, try it on and think the same! The key with pulling this off is some height but also keeping what you’re wearing on your legs very streamlined.
