Après ski capsule wardrobe: 14 outfits/14 days

Nikki ParkinsonFashion, Travel Leave a Comment

On a snow holiday, I wear the same thing each day if I’m on the slopes. So, it’s creating an après ski capsule wardrobe that is where the fun and creativity is at.

The packing and planning before I leave home helps to create an après ski capsule of outfits that are comfortable but make me feel put together.

Watch my packing video for more info. You’ll also find my back catalogue of packing guides HERE.

I know that playing dress ups while on holidays is not for everyone and that after a day of skiing you might just want to crawl into your pjs but for me, it’s fun to play.

During our 2024 stay in Nozawa Onsen, I loved layering and wearing my winter wardrobe that doesn’t get much of a workout in Brisbane.

The MVPs of my après ski capsule

1. Layers that worked back with each other proved key to my après ski capsule:

– one pair of denim jeans plus four pairs of black pants
– four knits
– two vests
– four long-sleeve tees
– two denim shirts

2. My Uniqlo puffer coat. I bought it six years ago. It’s the warmest level of down that Uniqlo offers. Look out for similar as Australia heads into winter. If heading to the northern hemisphere in mid-winter you’ll need this level of warmth.

3. Three pairs of FRANKIE4 shoes have served me well – sneakers and boots for outside and shearling mules for inside. The streets of Nozawa Onsen are heated by the natural hot spring waters of the village so I went knowing I wouldn’t be walking through deep snow and wouldn’t need snow boots. Opting for the leather commando style meant I was always comfortable walking out at night and, with thermal socks on, warm too.

4. Beanies were my key accessory – they help mix things up and hide the helmet hair I couldn’t be bothered to wash and dry one handed (I received a minor fracture to my wrist on Day 1!).

5. Bags: I had the Vestersi XL Bella backpack/tote (code NIKKI10) as my carry-on with the Eliza crossbody bag and strap as my everyday bag. This combination worked a treat and the tan and black worked back with all outfits. If stepping out at night, I’d often just take my Bon Maxie phone wallet (code STYLINGYOU10) with wrist strap. This was my wallet for the trip and fit snuggly into my crossbody – it was also great for holding my passport while in transit.

14 après ski outfits

Here are 14 of the après ski outfits I wore. Temperatures in the village ranged from -7 to 9 degrees and it was super cosy in our chalet.

I didn’t wear wear thermals at night as we were only outside for a short periods of time and would have been too hot in a restaurant or bar.

Where something I’m wearing is still available I’ve included links on the caption of each photo.
