Looking for tips on how to make your wardrobe work for you regardless of its size? You’ve come to the right place.
Wardrobes – and what we put in them – is a topic don’t think we can re-visit this subject enough, do you? It’s so, so easy (no matter how disciplined or organised) for life to get in the way and overwhelm to take over.
I know myself that keeping my wardrobe space organised is something I constantly have to work at. Granted, my “job” is all about clothes so things can get overwhelming very quickly, but there are a number of red flags for me that tell me I need to take stock.
The first is, I run out of hangers. Last year I switched all my flocked hangers to Bon Maxie coat hangers. They are so much stronger than my previous ones. And more beautiful. HAH! So important, right? With Bon Maxie’s recent re-stock I was able to complete the wardrobe vision.
Second, I find myself wearing the same things.
Third, I can only shove so much in. I’ve got a huge, custom-built space and have no plans to make it bigger.
In this Instagram Live video I talk about how to make your wardrobe work for you regardless of size, concentrating on three key areas:
- Editing your wardrobe. Always start with this process.
- How to make the most of the space you have.
- How to plan your weekly outfits so you use more of the clothes you already own.
Need help with editing your wardrobe? Google “wardrobe edit service” in your area. Need help with how to fit out the space you have to work with? Google “organisational consultant” in your area.
Please recycle and dispose of unwanted clothing responsibly. Do not donate clothes to charities that are stained, torn or in an un-sellable condition. This directory on Planet Arc will help you find a suitable place to dispose of unsellable clothing. For branded clothing in good condition, check to see if that brand has a Buy, Swap and Sell group on Facebook – for a little work you could earn some dollars back on your original purchase.
The foldable timber rack I use to hang my clothes for the week is from Rack Magic. Yes, you’ll pay more than a discount department store offering but this not only looks good, it seems to hold weight better than others I’ve had before.
Remember, there can be so much emotion (good and bad) tied up in our clothes. Get rid of anything that makes you feel anything less than fabulous RIGHT NOW. You deserve that.
My tips are tried and true, first shared here on the blog and in my book, Unlock Your Style. Enter UYS at checkout to save $10, now $5 plus postage.
Now that you have your homework to make your wardrobe work for you, next week, I’ll chat more about refreshing your outfits and specific everyday outfit questions you’ve asked me. If you have more, leave a comment below.

I gave my husband and son the black flocked ones and the timber ones they previously used we sold on Facebook Marketplace.
