The Styling You Annual Swimsuit Edition 2021 is here and like last year we’re showcasing swimsuits on a range of women of different ages, shapes and sizes. It’s your annual reminder that your body is already beach ready. Just get it in a swimsuit and get to the beach.
If you’re new around here, welcome. This is a safe space for you to challenge your internal critic and make this summer the summer you get into a swimsuit. I’ve been vocal about this, putting my body on the line and on this blog since 2013. Last year I roped in more women to join the cause – and we appeared in a national newspaper magazine. This year we’ve got even more women sharing swimsuit looks. Each woman chose a swimsuit that makes them feel good when on and suits their swimsuit lifestyle. Swimsuits were gifted. Photos are by Kate Luke Photography.
If you asked any of the women below, they would tell you that being photographed in a swimsuit is not something that they are jumping out of their skin with confidence to do – and these are women who are used to having their photos taken on a daily basis. The thing is, they’re just like you. They have all the same insecurities that you do, that we all do. I don’t consider it a brave thing to be photographed in a swimsuit and have it published on the internet but like one of the women photographed below (hello Brooke!) I do consider it a bold thing to do, something that calls on every bit of work you may have been doing on body acceptance.
But the reason they say yes (thank you gorgeous women) is that they know that if by showing up in their togs, cossie, bathers or swimsuit that they just might help change the mindset of just one woman. Maybe that woman is you? Maybe this is the year that you don’t sit on the side of the pool or stay on the sand? Maybe this is the year that you get in the water and you made one hell of a splash?
This is one woman’s story – a DM I received the night before writing this post:
“I’m a mum of two and have struggled with weight gain since pregnant with my first 7.5 years ago. I’ve never shifted the weight – 40kg – down 20kg but the weight is still there. I decided after your swimsuit campaign last year that my body is strong, my kids want their mum to play in the sand and teach them to paddle board. They don’t want me hiding away. And guess what? They DO NOT care about wobbly, dimply bits. So I’ve vowed again this summer to make the most of my time in a swimsuit on our family holiday at the beach every single day.”

Do also check out each of the independent swimwear labels they’re wearing. Each of the labels chosen for this feature actively promotes the same swimsuit messages I do.
I’d love to also send a shout to Ellenny Swim (which I featured HERE) – they have some fabulous new designs coming this season, which I’ll share very soon. And my favourite rashies – the ones that I reach for every summer to throw on over my swimsuits are from The Acqua Brand.
More than ever, small independent labels need our support. You’ll also find amazing women behind these labels giving incredible customer support and advice. Reach out to them for help with sizing and styles.

Why do you feel great in this swimsuit?
I love a bikini for practicality when in and out of the pool at home. You can easily go to the bathroom. HAH. And I can stay in them all day with just a cover-up over the top. Why I love this particular style of top is because the support is next level. It’s doing bra-like magic to my bust but with comfort a priority. If you’re a busty lady up to size 18, then this Byron Bay-based brand should be on your radar. There are a number of different pant styles available – this is the new Olivia style and it’s a good mid-waist option that suits my short-waisted torso.
What would be your message to a woman reading this post who fears getting their body into a swimsuit?
Life really is too short to sit on the sidelines. One of the greatest joys in my life is swimming – always has been; always will be. I can’t imagine not going in the water when at the beach (well, when it’s warm!). The thing is, no-one’s really looking at us. They’re not. They’re actually too wrapped up in their own negative self talk to give two hoots about what we look like in a swimsuit. Just do it.

Why do you feel great in this swimsuit?
Made from a beautiful and luxurious Italian Lycra this one-pieces hugs, supports and sculpts my curves in all the right places. It’s subtle and sexy, and the tie details at the shoulder add a little extra sass. And it’s Australian-made from recycled materials giving it an extra feel good factor.
What would be your message to a woman reading this post who fears getting their body into a swimsuit?
You deserve to enjoy the beach and/or the pool and getting in the water and feel the pleasure of having sunshine and water on your skin, and the rejuvenation that comes with that. And if that’s not enough incentive to throw on your togs, remember that most people are too busy worrying about what they look like in their swimmers to notice how you look in yours, so take a deep breath and get out of your head and into the water!

Why do you feel great in this swimsuit?
I love a great print and some sneaky bust support and this bikini gives me all that and more! The bright pattern gives me the summer holiday vibes I’ve been dreaming of and the high waist and this particular high waist and supportive style of bikini holds my curves in all the right places so I feel confident in showing them off.
What would be your message to a woman reading this post who fears getting their body into a swimsuit?
There is absolutely nothing you need to change about your body to put it in a swimsuit, your body is brave, strong and looks great exactly how it is. Don’t miss out on the fun stuff, the good stuff, the time with your friends and family or days in the sunshine because you’re worried about wearing a swimsuit. Find colours and styles (high waisted or sleeves) that you love and feel good in to help boost your confidence. At the end of the day you’re not going to remember what your thighs looked like, you’re going to remember the smiles, the laughs and the days you spent (safely, slip slop slap) in the sun, and that’s worth putting a swimsuit on for.
