Here in Queensland, the “arms out” season has arrived. It’s already so hot and steamy most days that the care factor about showing my arms is once again disappearing into a sweaty mess of “who really cares?”
Like my annual Swimsuit Edition (which is coming again this year … I promise it will be worth the wait!), I’m very big on mmm … politely suggesting … that we get out of the way of ourselves and our negative self talk and just let those arms be free. Wave them all about I say. Life’s too short to cover bits of our body up that make it uncomfortable to do so because of the heat.
So, in the spirit of that, I’m featuring in this post an “arms out” dress from the new Boom Shankar spring-summer 2020 collection.
If you’ve been following around here for a while (or even way back in my days as a fashion and magazine editor on the Sunshine Coast), you’d know that I’m a huge fan of Dui Cameron, the designer behind this iconic Australian boho label.
I’ve had a sneak look at what’s coming this season and you’re going to LOVE. I hope you love this particular dress as much as I do!

I mean, how gorgeous is this dress. Kind of makes you want to throw your hands and arms up in the air like the model is doing. It’s so swish-able and swoon-worthy with its gold lurex on rust subtle summer vibes. The lined cotton fabric has just the right amount of weight for summer and the tiers fall beautifully.
The spaghetti straps are adjustable – that is a key detail that I look for in sleeveless/strappy summer dresses and tops. I really want to be able adjust where the dress sits under my arms. I’ve got a substantial amount of side boobage and I like to keep that covered. Yes, I’m wearing a strapless bra but I’m ok with that. Here are my tips for finding one (if you’ve missed it).
In this outfit, I’ve worn the dress casually with slides (hello rose gold slides!) but I’d also wear this dressed up with wedges or heels for a summer lunch out with the girls.
So, tell me, are you a “arms out” kind of girl? If not, will you join me in free-ing your arms this summer?
