Brisbane label Maiocchi, known for its shape-loving styles and custom prints, is bringing its love of florals to the fore right now.

When you think of florals, it’s so easy to think that styling these prints needs to be all about continuing the feminine theme. They most certainly can be worn that way but knowing you can mix things up really does help you extend a floral wardrobe piece.

I like to embrace this tough-pretty contrast when it comes to wearing florals. My style is not overly feminine, so working this contrast allows me to create outfits with interest but outfits that challenge my style status quo.

Let’s chat about this dress. For starters, the fabric is my fave for structure and comfort – ponte!  You get all the stretch of a jersey but with a weight that helps you feel “put together” and skims in all the right places.

The cut of this dress is also genius, with two vertical panels running down the front, creating shape and giving the illusion of a longer torso – something that works so much better for me than a waisted dress. The dress comes with a tie (see model) but I’ve left off as that’s what works best for my short waist.

The half sleeves and boat-neckline make this a dress that will work well now with layering and serve you into the start of spring.

To toughen the look up, I’ve added a leather jacket and boots for a day or night-time look for catching up with friends. For the office, add a blazer, tights and closed-toe pumps.

So, tell me, are you someone who feels at home in florals? Love a ponte-anything situation?
