Praise be cooler weather and a chance to embrace the season of the jeans and a nice top. Because, let’s face it, it’s our going out uniform of choice.
There is nothing quite like popping on a pair of jeans, a fun and fresh top and heading out the door. It feels comfortable and effortless … because it is.
The jeans and a nice top combo also ensures you’ll never feel over or under dressed. Your outfit says dressed up enough for almost any outing with girlfriends, family or your partner but not too much that you’ll feel out of place.
The jeans and a nice top uniform is simple. In theory.
The thing is (myself included), I’m so easily drawn to the “nice” top. It’s the fashion-y easy add to my wardrobe each season. It’s a way to add a trend without being OTT. It’s often colourful/patterned/sparkly/all of the above but that’s the appeal.
What isn’t appealing, is coming home all excited to wear said new nice top and having not one pair of jeans that you love wearing to go with it.
So before you check out and add to cart on any of the 12 nice tops I’ve curated for you below, do a check on your jeans collection. Are you happy with what’s there. Do they fit? Are they a shape that works for you?

Bohemian Traders: there is something about the cut and colour of these jeans that keeps me coming back to them time and again. They perform all kinds of sorcery on making my legs look longer than they are.
birdsnest: the Powerstretch range in the bird Keepers label feels and good as it looks on. So, so flattering. And so comfortable.
Motto: Motto has done denim super well the past couple of years and this season it’s lifted the bar again with the arrival of Body Sculpt jean.
Sussan: I bought a version of these a couple of years ago and they’re still firm faves. The cut of Sussan’s jeans and pants just seems to work with my shape.
Jeanswest: Jeanswest continues to improve its stretch jean offering. The Freeform 360 range is very much worth checking out.

All of these tops are wonderful, but I like the 11th most!
Love the Bohemian Traders top and would like to try the K Mart mustard one to see if it suits me.I love my NYDJ jeans and my black Rag and Bone jeans but did just purchase a pair of hi rise super shaped jeans for everyday wear,they are surprisingly comfortable and a great price.
Looks like some great options! I would really love to try the bohemian trader jeans and tops but the no returns policy is just too risky for purchasing online?
I’ve had my eye on BT Sundancer top – love the colours. Also very much looking forward to the arrival of SYTL jeans as I’ve worn the denim skirt loads over the summer!

After doing a big cull a while back, I seem to have hardly any ‘nice tops’ atm to wear with jeans. My SY animal print shirt has been on high rotation. Looks great with my CR black jeans. I like the look of sparkly Jen! And the BT top. I usually look for nice tops in Tigerlily in winter. It’s a place I avoid in summer though! What jeans for me? My fave jeans are from Oasis in the UK, or Seed, or Jag. And sometimes Levis.
