The shift dress is my favourite style of dress. It suits my body shape as I’m short-waisted and like things to skim over my hips and tummy.
To me, it’s an effortless style that always looks put together. And when you add to that shape, cold shoulder detailing and fabulous polka dots, then you have a serious “add to cart” situation.
Say hello to my first pick from the Belle bird autumn-winter 2019 collection from birdsnest.

When it’s still hot but fashion has declared autumn is here, this is the type of dress you need. Its sleeves provide nature’s air vents, so it can be worn now. As it cools down, simply add a blazer and tights.
It’s the type of look that works for the office but also out to lunch with girlfriends. I’ve kept it tonal with black accessories but you could opt to add a pop of colour in the shoes and bag – think red or hot pink – for a completely different look.
The neckline is a flattering cut and the hemline on me falls at the knee. I’ve not worn a slip underneath but you might feel more comfortable with one.
The cut is just right for me in my regular size 14 but it is a relaxed cut. If you’re between sizes, size down.

Looking so cute!
Gorgeous dress on you Nikki xx
I really love the polka dot dress, it’s adorable on you.
It’s funny you should mention wearing black and navy together.
Just the past week, I wore black jeans with a navy top and I noticed a friend at work giving me the once over, then stated my outfit looked good. I said thanks and she went on to say she was raised on no black with navy, but seeing my outfit, it must be ok now.
I had never heard that rule!
I tend to wear what I feel looks and feels good on me.
