The Model and Me: Harlow spring-summer 2018

Harlow is one of Australia’s leading “curve” labels and I’ve been proud to support this independent since it started. Reason being: finding edgy/urban fashion pieces for women with curves (and in sizes 12-26) is not as easy as it should be.

Harlow does urban curves extremely well – every season. It’s a Melbourne-based, Australian-made label and I see that city vibe come through with every collection.

The Harlow spring-summer 2018 collection is no exception. You’ll find great quality basics; plus statement pieces like this sequinned black skirt (HELLO!) and the stunning cotton broderie anglaise maxi I’m featuring below.

This is a timeless 100% cotton stunner – and it’s a limited edition piece. Only 54 pieces were made. It has a gorgeous shape, skimming the body but without added volume. The sleeves, neck and hemline add drama and balance proportions.

I love length of the dress on me. Showing a bit of ankle helps to prevent potential overwhelm that can sometimes happen in a full-length maxi. The back of the empire waist is elasticated, giving a little room for a larger bust (I would have had to size up without it) and it adds comfort for everyday movement.

The cut out fabric means that you need a slip underneath (unless throwing it on over a swimsuit). Harlow makes an incredible stretch slip in cotton elastane, which is perfect for summer breathability. I found the slip also helped to create a better line for me across the bust.

It’s the type of dress I’d wear out to dinner or a Christmas party with heels but then switch to a flat sandal for a more casual summer gathering.
