The Model and Me: Fabrik autumn-winter 2018

Now, I know the sight of bare legs in June will shock many of my southern style sisters but it’s a reality up here when some days can reach low or mid-20s.

This week there’s a 25-degree day forecast. GAH. That’s not ideal after a 9 degree overnight low. A girl has to get super creative with her wardrobe to make it feel and look like winter at the start and end of the day – but not swelter in the middle of it.

If I’m not in jeans and a tee uniform, I’m in a tunic-style dress/top and leggings/tights situation. The beauty of this look is that I can take off the tights when things warm up. I can also start the day with outer layers of a cardi or wrap/poncho, removing it all between the hours of 10am and 5pm.

Australian label Fabrik is one that I’ve featured here on the blog before and it was one such tunic dress that caught my eye from the Fabrik autumn-winter collection. There is more to love from this season … you can check it all out HERE.

I just love the colour of this dress – it is closer in colour in real life to the photo of me wearing it, although slightly more vintage rose pink than showing in my photo. It’s so tricky for me to get the exact colour photographed, especially when they’re a shades like these.

For me, it’s a colour that works beautifully with winter neutrals, eg greys, creams and tans but it equally works as a spring dress with wedges or sandals. I’ve worked it back with tan boots because at this time of year I’m always trying to give my outfits a winter feel, even if it’s a mild day.

The fabric itself is a textured mid-weight cotton. It feels delicious on, like something you’ve had in your wardrobe and loved for a very long time. The finishing details make this dress, from the piping around the neckline, to the pintuck addition to the hem and the flattering three-quarter sleeve.

So, tell me, are you a tunic and leggings kind of girl too? Need to take your tights/leggings off by 11am?

  1. What colour tights would you put with this dress? Any brand recommendations that don’t sag?
I love the dress and am just about to purchase, but unsure what to put under it.
