The Model and Me: Harlow Australia autumn-winter 2018

For any woman blessed with curves, finding a dress pant that fits and flatters is far from a fun wardrobe adventure. It’s not just a matter of sizing up in a cut that’s been made for an athletic column-shaped figure. It’s a matter of creating a design that drapes with the body to skim and highlight the bits we’d like highlighted.

Comfort is also key. We want those dress pants to look mighty fine but we also want them to not prevent us from sitting down or tucking into a dinner and cocktails when out with the girls. We’d also like them to not crush. Note previous comment about sitting down. We want to sit down and then stand up without needing to get out the steamer or iron.

Australian independent label Harlow Australia knows how to cut a very good dress pant for size 12-26 women. Last year I fell in love with these pants (they’re back, Stylers, if you missed out) and in this post I’m sharing another fab cut of pant, worked back with one of the label’s best-selling staples and a show-pony piece from the Harlow Australia autumn-winter 2018 collection.

If you peel off the show-pony layer, you have a basic black pant and white tee foundation outfit. These are key pieces that I recommend should be in every girl’s wardrobe.

The t-shirt is over-sized and boxy, with a split sides in a soft jersey that makes it so easy to half tuck. The fabric isn’t see-through either. Winning for a white tee.

The pants are a perfect 7/8 length for a flattering leg line. They’ll take you from a day at the office to drinks. Or you could easily dress them down by adding a sneaker and a knit for weekend comfort. They’re made from a luxe four-way, stretch fabric that looks great all day long. There is a wider waistband at the front and elastic at the back for a flattering, yet comfortable, fit.

As for the jacket … I’ve never met an animal-print anything that I’ve not loved and this jacket is no exception. It’s a fabulous mix of structure (hello soft shoulder pads) and drape in a waterfall style that can be layered over the top of a tee or a knit with ease. It’s a tencel/rayon fabric with ties that allow you to adjust its waist shape. This jacket works just as well with a skirt or solid colour frock as it does with these pants.

So, tell me, do you struggle to find a pair of black pants that suits your shape? Love animal print?

  1. Hi Nikki, yes I find it hard to get pants because I am so short. Love animal print. This outfit looks great, comfortable and I really like your boots with it rather than the heels. x

  2. Yes I do find it hard to find suitable black pants. I have bought ones from Katie’s as they were straight and non complicated. The material in the last few years, I have found too hot.
