Brisbane is the birthplace of some pretty amazing fashion labels, labels which are not afraid to thumb their noses at trends and march to the beat of their own designer drum.
Maiocchi – a long-time favourite here at Styling You – is one of those labels. I’ve been talking about Maiocchi since before this blog was a thing.
I remember, as a journo, seeing designer Deanne Mayocchi’s designs at the first Mercedes-Benz Brisbane Fashion Festival and being taken with her mix of flattering shapes and quirky, exclusive prints – all in a label that is Brisbane-made.
I love that these key aspects of Maiocchi continue to this day. The label has a cult following and I’ve loved getting to know the genius behind the label since moving to Brisbane.
When designing a new collection, Deanne will work through the night. She’ll tell you that her best design work happens at 2.30am. I’m impressed, especially when she then rocks up to a 6am yoga class on one of those evenings/mornings.
The frock I’m featuring today is from the Maiocchi autumn-winter 2018 collection. I’m showing it here on one of the models but I LOVE that Deanne now shoots her garments on two of my faves, Lily at Slow Down Style and Stacey McGregor at @stace_mcgregs.
Make sure you click through to see how it looks on Lily and Stacey as well.

and me
Maiocchi frock (I’m 166cm and have sized down one size to a 12 in this design) | Materiel earrings | FRANKiE4 Footwear CATE heels
It might be the Year of the Dog but this frock has me on Team Lucky Cat. ALL THE WAY. I mean, how cute? I love how you might not see the cats at first glance but then you do and you can’t help but smile.
That’s what I love about Maiocchi’s exclusive prints. They surprise and delight. I also love that Deanne knows her away around a flattering garment for all shapes and sizes.
There are some gorgeous waisted pieces. They don’t work so well for my short-waist situation but I just LOVE seeing them on my longer-waisted sisters.
What does work for me are the pieces that skim from a higher waist, lightly shaping across the body. Exactly like this frock.
The shaping is subtle but oh, so effective.
And can we please talk about this gorgeous neckline? The cut-outs add a beautiful statement.
Add a blazer for the office or a dressy heel for lunch with the girls. Pop your hands in the two front pockets and you’re good to go.
Maiocchi has collaborated with jewellery label Materiel to create pieces that work beautifully with its autumn-winter 2018 collection. I’m wearing the mirrored cherry blossom tassel earrings. More from the range HERE.
So tell me, do you love a quirky frock that fits and flatters?
Special offer: sign up to the Maiocchi newsletter and enjoy $25 off on full-priced items.
