I know that most areas of the country have been experiencing heatwave conditions but the autumn-winter fashion season cares not about our collective sweltering.
Instead, it’s tempting us with things that are fun and new and shiny and bright.
The key when it’s so early in the season is to stop, breathe, and be MINDFUL before succumbing to the fun, new, shiny and bright.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with buying early in a fashion season. Some of my best purchases are those early ones.
The key is making sure those early buys work with your existing wardrobe and your lifestyle. It seems such a simple premise but one of the biggest mistakes most of us make when tempted by new-season purchases is buying a piece because of the initial thrill, without thinking of the follow through.
To kick off the autumn-winter season here on Styling You, I’ve got a piece for you that has initial thrill PLUS follow through.
It’s my pick from the newly released Vagabond Bohemian Traders autumn-winter 2018 collection.
The model
Bohemian Traders Houndstooth blazer
and me
Bohemian Traders blazer (I’m in L) and jeans (I’m in 30 – they’re tight around the tum but perfect on my legs so I just hide the tum!) | boho bird by Birdsnest cami (THE BEST cami shape – I’m in 14) | FRANKiE4 Footwear BETH shoe
Oh, HELLO. It’s HOUNDSTOOTH. Be still my 90s-loving heart. When I first clocked this blazer, I “mindfully” said, yes, “you’re a very welcome addition to my existing autumn-winter wardrobe”.
This blazer shape is the same that I fell for last year in black and white. It’s an uber-flattering shape that works for both a casual and dressed-up situation. Blazers are my go-to pieces year-round as they can take any outfit next level.
The houndstooth rounds out my versatile collection of Bohemian Traders blazers. It’s a true-to-size and its mid-weight wool/polyester fabric is in tones that will work with pretty much any skin tone.
I’ve worn it here with a favourite cami underneath (because HEATWAVE), the fabulous and famously flattering Bohemian Traders distressed skinnies and the brand, spanking new BETH Derby flats from FRANKiE4 Footwear (you so need to check out this new style named after my girlfriend, BabyMac).
In all honesty, it will be a while until I can wear this particular piece here in Queensland, but it will be such a wardrobe workhorse for me once the temperature backs off. Blazers like this are the kind of pieces I look out for in early autumn. They’re unlikely to be around when it does cool down, so it pays to snap them up when they are released.
So, tell me, do you love a blazer for dressing up an outfit? Had a houndstooth jacket back in the day?
