Stylers, this is the final Model and Me post for 2017.
These weekly posts (which I started back in 2010) are about two things: firstly it’s about giving you an opportunity to see a garment on someone who is not of model proportions. That someone is me. Secondly, it’s about showcasing Australian independent fashion labels.
Since Day 1 here on Styling You, it’s been part of this blog’s ethos to be a champion of the independent brands. It’s not an easy industry in which to stay viable when fast fashion dominates.
But without the incredible creatives working amazingly hard behind the scenes every month of the year, we would not have diversity in our fashion choices. I thank you for supporting the designers I feature here. You are making a real difference to real people’s lives. And you’re looking mighty fine while you’re making that difference.
This was your Top 5 Model and Me posts in 2017 (according to how many visits each post got):
- Mela Purdie autumn-winter 2017
- Mojo Beach spring-summer 2017
- Sacha Drake spring-summer 2017
- Bird Keepers spring-summer 2017
- Maiocchi autumn-winter 2017
fabrik is all about natural fibres in feminine designs that are timeless. Designer Sarah Hardie nails this in the featured dress today.
fabrik dress (I’m in size 3) | FRANKiE4 Footwear NiKKi heels in punched tan
This dress is quintessentially summer in a frock. The combination of cotton voile and limited edition lace take this cool and comfortable dress to the next level.
Even though it’s maxi in length, the sheer lace panels help to give proportion to the outfit because we can see the legs.
The piece comes with its own cotton slip. Without the slip, it’s quite sheer but it would be very ok to throw it on over a swimsuit.
The sizing here is generous around the hips and waist but more fitted on the bust. I’m a size 14 and wearing the 3 which is the equivalent to a 12 on the fabrik size chart.
I’ve worn it here with heels but it would work equally as well with a wedge or flat slides.
So, tell me, do you love a white frock for summer? What was your favourite Model and Me outfit from 2017?

SY Festive Frock week
If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I share my daily outfits there. I’ve been doing that for more than four years now and haven’t missed a day. What you see is what I wore that day. It’s taken that day too. There are a tonne of other women who do the same and you can follow them all via the #everydaystyle hashtag.
This week, I’ve planned out my outfits, and every one of those outfits will have a festive flavour to it – think outfits in red, white, green and sparkles. Why leave all the festivities to just one day when you can make a week of it, yes?
If you’d like to join in, post your outfit photos to Instagram, use the #everydaystyle hashtag but also use #syfestivefrocks so I can check them all out. We’ll also be sharing our festive frocks in our Facebook group. If you’re not a member, sign up here.
