The Model and Me: Sacha Drake autumn-winter 2017

If you’re new to Styling You you may not have heard me bang on about Brisbane-based label, Sacha Drake.

I’ve known Sacha personally since my time as a fashion writer and journalist. Back then – and now – she continues to design clothing pieces that just work. Not just on models but on everyday women.

My first Sacha Drake piece was a jersey wrap dress. It served me for many years, including pregnancy. I also passed it on to a friend for her pregnancy.

Sacha has always cut her patterns to a size 14 as well as size 10. It means her designs work if you have curves. They haven’t just been upsized from the smaller size in the hope that it works.

Sacha Drake has always been a great go-to label of mine for occasion wear but in recent years I’ve also been able to call on its Solutions range for timeless pieces that you can dress up or dress down.

The Sacha Drake autumn winter 2017 outfit I’ve chosen to feature is one that works as an occasion outfit but would also work for the office.

(Please note the colour of the skirt on the model is true – this photo of me was taken late afternoon and it’s not showing the colour correctly)

I have to tell you first up that wearing these two pieces is as comfortable as wearing a pair of pjs. The rayon-polyester-spandex-ponte fabric mix in the skirt offers just enough support and structure while allowing it to drape over the hips to below the knee.

The size 14 in the skirt did fit me but I felt that the 16 offered more skimming over my front and back bottoms :). I love how the fishtail design of the skirt balances out my hips but still creates a beautiful line for the lower half of my legs.

I’ve been an offical stripe lover from way back so that’s a tick for me too. This colour mix is classic autumn-winter. I’ve worn the skirt back with the black top but it would work with white, camel or olive.  I love the shape of this top. The stretch crepe sits beautifully and the roll neck adds interest.

Wear this outfit as pictured for an occasion or event. Add a blazer in black or white to take this outfit to the office. It’s that versatile.

Are you all for dressed-up garments that look great but are super comfortable to wear? A fan of Sacha Drake clothes?

Thank you for creating the Ultimate Capsule Wardrobe. I liked how we were able to adapt the suggested pieces to suit what we may already have or find alternatives to suit budgets, lifestyles and tastes. I feel like I have a really great wardrobe for the season where I have so many combinations I can put together. I have loved the Facebook group as I felt really safe posting outfits and it was really lovely to receive such positive comments from those within the group and gain ideas from others. – Leanne

  1. I have several pieces from Sacha in my wardrobe and they never fail to elicit compliments from people. Plus Sacha is such a down to earth lady that you cannot help but adore her!
