We talk a lot here about packing for holidays.
Nailing those pieces that are ideal for more than one use while on a trip means that you don’t need to worry about excess baggage surcharges.
My friend, Emily, the powerhouse behind independent swimwear label Bombshell Bay (I featured one of her swimsuits here), knows her way around a beach or island escape and put her designer thinking cap on to come up with a beach-to-bar frock that would earn its place in a holiday suitcase.
The model
Bombshell Bay Minimalist Beach Dress $49
and me
Bombshell Bay dress* (I’m size 16 and 166cm) | Eb & Ive scarf | FRANKiE4 Footwear LiBBi sandals
I love the drape of this dress. It’s cool, comfortable and easy to wear, making it a no-brainer to pack for a beach escape.
It’s cotton – a mid-weight, just-right cotton. The v-neckline and draped sleeve are super flattering.
It’s a one-size-fits-most dress. I’m a size 16 and there is still plenty of room. Smaller? It will be more over-sized on you.
While black mightn’t be your first choice in a beach cover-up, I do like its classic good looks. And given that many of my swimsuits are black, this works brilliantly.
The only drawback for you might be in its length. I’m 166cm and it falls mid-thigh on me, with the side split taking it higher, so it’s strictly pool or beach for me.
If you’re shorter and find beach cover-ups generally too over-whelming in length then this will be perfect for you.
So tell me, what makes the idea beach/travel dress for you?

I think it’s a great tunic (I think black makes summer wear sophisticated) and I really like those little sandals you’re wearing. Have a great weekend Nikki.
Looks better on you Nikki! Alana
I love it Nikki it would be the perfect length on my 161cm shortie height!
I love kaftans for over cossie’s or for just playing resorts Xx
It would be ideal for you Lisa! Very much geared to playing resorts x
Looks great – wanting Christmas to come even sooner! 🙂 Is this the Mahana scarf from Eb & Ive? On their site it is also shown as a cape. Thanks a lot!
Yes, me too! Tired today and dreaming of a beach escape. The print is the same at the Mahana but this is just a scarf not a cape. They may have sold out the scarf. Try contacting them via email. x
Ok Thanks Nikki! Yes it is called a scarf but says it can also be used as a cape and that is the only photo of it. Yes I’ll email them. Thanks for your help x:)
Holiday withdrawal feelings generated haha! Cute little dress, and I love the label name. I took my trusty BT kimono on our holidays, wore it for a cover up over swimmers, sun protection and just lounging around. Easy care and comfy gets my tick 🙂
I’m hanging out for a New Year’s holiday at the beach Kathryn … October seems so long ago now x
