The Model and Me: Sacha Drake

I’ve been talking up Sacha Drake designs since before this blog was even thought of.

Sacha understands how a garment drapes on a woman. She just gets it.

Last summer in the Styling You Shop, I introduced you to one of her most genius styles to date, the Column Drape dress.

I have the Column Drape in black in both the short and maxi versions and I know their timeless style and flattering super power will ensure they’ll remain in my wardrobe for years to come.

This season, Sacha has released the same design in taupe and it was love at first sight – and wear.

Ok, so what’s to love about this dress. Pull up a chair and let me list the reasons.

The fabric means that it’s an ideal travel garment. As you can see, this isn’t my regular balcony, I packed this and took it with me on our trip to Hawaii.

It was the perfect choice for our dinner out at Nobu – one of my top five dining experiences EVER. I felt dressed up but not over the top for a resort destination.

My choice on this occasion was to skip the waist tie and wear it with the v-neck at the front. I have previously worn the Column Drape with the tie and also with the high-neck at the front.

Yes, you can get four different looks out of the one dress. That’s my kind of frock.

And I love that without the belt the dress still drapes to offer a beautiful shape on.

This colour is all kinds of wonderful. It may be a neutral but it throws a beautiful semi-metallic sheen in the light so, in my book, it’s a neutral with benefits.

I’ve worked it back with black but it would work just as well with nude accessories.

This style also lends itself to wearing with a jacket or longline coat when the weather isn’t quite offering up Hawaiian balminess.

Did I mention the underarm situation? This genius design has extra fabric underneath the arm so it prevents any gaping that can happen with sleeveless garments.

Did you snap up the Column Drape in black last year? Like the idea of a taupe dress as an elegant basic alternative?
