The Model and Me: Adrift

There is something about embroidery on a garment that gets me excited.

My inner-boho heart starts to beat a little faster. I imagine that any minute I’m about to be whisked away somewhere exotic and that someone will thrust a cocktail in my general direction.

{Yes, I can get very carried away with my dreaming.}

This is my kind of feminine detailing. I’m not a frou-frou kind of girl but show me some quality needle and thread work I’m there.

Queensland-based label Adrift has just released new embroidery pieces as part of its spring 2016 In Bloom collection.

I featured my favourite top from the collection on Instagram last week (you can check it out more closely herebut today I’m featuring my favourite dress from the collection.

The model

Adrift Charlotte dress in black and cream

Adrift Charlotte dress (in black and cream) $149.95

and me

Adrift Charlotte dress | FRANKiE4 Footwear wedges

Adrift Charlotte dress* (I’m in size L and 166cm tall) | FRANKiE4 Footwear wedges $229.95

I was initially drawn in by the folk floral embroidery work – the quality is on a par with pieces I own from more expensive labels – but wardrobe deal was firmly sealed when I first slipped on this frock.

It immediately felt like it was made for me.

The shape is relaxed but flatteringly so. I’m a size 16 hip but the size down – the L – skims my hips with room to spare.

The v-neck and three-quarter sleeve length and positioning of the embroidery is also uber-flattering.

Length-wise, it’s perfect for my 166cm height, dropping to the top of my knee.

The fabric is a lightweight cotton voile but with the addition of 5% spandex for comfort – I particularly like this for across the shoulders.

You’ll also be seeing me wear the navy and white version of this dress as part of a new project I’m launching very soon. Stay tuned …

So tell me, do you love a touch of embroidery on a frock or top?

  1. Hi Nikki, the Adrift embroidered dress is absolutely gorgeous on you! I think it is one of the best Model & Me outfits I’ve seen. You look beautiful!

  2. Love this dress! I think it’s my fave of the new Adrift collection. I ordered the navy and white version over the weekend (so I’m even more thrilled to see it on you today!) – cannot wait for mine to arrive, hopefully for the weekend 🙂

  3. Uh oh – I think I have a Styling You addiction 😉 The very regular impulse purchases I make after seeing your posts have recently caught the attention of not only my husband but kids too!! Deliveries now coming to work & sneaking into the wardrobe! This dress will be the test case for the under the radar approach 🙂

  4. I’m with you on the embroidery, Nikki. So much prettier than flounces and frills, without the added bulk.
This dress looks like a lovely shape on both you and the model, skimming, not swamping is so flattering.

  5. That dress is a stunner! Looks lovely on you Nikki. I don’t think I could choose between the black or the navy. It might just be a case of “one in every colour please” xx

  6. Oh wow, that is one beautiful dress! I immediately imagined it in navy, so happy they have it too. Has my name on it for sure 🙂
