The Model and Me: Adrift

Nikki Parkinson Fashion, The Model and Me 9 Comments

The past few weeks when I’m planning out my outfits (and yes, I do this every Sunday – the plan is subject to change but it gives me a solid starting point), I look at the weather app in anticipation that autumn will finally be on my door step.

I don’t think we’re in for an autumn this year, given that winter is more than coming, it’s almost here.

To keep my outfits fresh and not too much like what I wore in summer, I’ve been opting for autumn styling and colours but in lighter fabrics and in styles that I can layer something else over the top when the sun goes down.

At night time, if we leave all the windows open, I CAN feel autumn in my toes. I CAN.

Today’s featured outfit comes from Adrift, a Brisbane-based label with two bricks and mortar stores in the city as well. In summer, Adrift is your go-to for resort styles and in the cooler months they really do transition our wardrobes but with pieces that suit a milder winter.

This outfit fills that brief.

Oh, you got me, this top appealed immediately because it was OTS … off the shoulder. My summer obsession has transitioned into autumn with this light, rayon twill top … and I may have some OTS knitwear on hand for the cooler days ahead. (I trotted out a Witchery knit on Saturday night in the hope it was cool enough.)

This particular top has been hugely popular and now pre-orders are being taken for delivery in June, so it’s not just me obsessed with OTS anything.

The sleeve gives it an autumn take on the summer OTS look but the fabric is light enough for warmer days. On cooler days, I’ll add on a cape or wrap knit – the type of layer that you can carry in a bag and trot out when the sun goes down and the temperature drops.

I like keeping the neckline free of jewellery in an OTS outfit, opting instead for a statement earring as the feature accessory. These ones are fabulous for just that.

The pants are similar in style but different fabric to the Surafina pants I included in the Spring 2015 Styling You Shop. I always buy on the generous side so that with this style of pant so you get the drape at the front and back.

For a more casual look, these pants work with sneakers, tee and denim jacket.

So tell me, are you still obsessed about the OTS look? Exposing a little shoulder into winter?

  1. I love the OTS tops on others but sadly having tried quite a few tops and dresses I just don’t think it works on me.

  2. Great outfit Nikki 🙂 I had a look at the Adrift website yesterday, they have a lot of lovely dresses. Not that I need anything lol. It’s been cool in the mornings and nights here, but hot during the day still. Perfect weather really. My Dad has been saying for ages that we are going to go straight into winter and it will be a cold one. I took my Everyday Cashmere wrap from your A/W 15 shop out with me on Saturday night, didn’t need it sadly, can’t wait to wear it again! Kathryn 🙂
