I’ve become one of those people who endlessly talks about the weather.
It’s got so bad (the weather and me talking about it) that I’m trying to ban myself from the subject.
That’s all a bit difficult, I guess, when what we wear is so linked to what the weather is doing.
What I’d love the weather to be doing right now is embracing autumn.
Until then, I’ll continue to offer autumn Model and Me inspiration in the hope that one day soon these outfits will be on high rotation for my #everydaystyle.
Today I’m featuring a piece from Rasaleela, a label started by Trish Louey in 2002 after she returned to Australia from living and studying in India.
Rasaleela is designed in Australia but Trish still travels the globe for inspiration. Vintage-inspired and ethnic prints are part of Rasaleela’s signature style.
The model
Rasaleela Mao cotton poncho in black Kiru Kara print
and me
Rasaleela Mao cotton poncho* (I’m wearing M/L) | wYse leggings | UNIQLO tank | FRANKiE4 Footwear boots
If I’m not wearing jeans in winter, you’ll most likely find me in a leggings and tunic combo. Because COMFORT.
Add in a pair of ankle boots with benefits and you’ve got my unofficial winter uniform.
What I love about this particular tunic/poncho situation is that it’s made from cotton, so is ideal for autumn (and a Queensland winter … there I go again with the weather talk).
I just love the print – a traditional Japanese Kiru Kara flower. It’s not overwhelming on me and a classic piece in the black and white. You might prefer the blue in the same print, black in Touhana print or green in Hanakhoushi print.
The style is also incredibly forgiving, while adding shape. It looks like it’s a jacket or kimono that’s been done up at the front but that front panel is joined and drapes beautifully to elongate your shape.
The asymmetrical hem gives great shape to your legs. The length is ideal for me – I’d even wear this on its own with a slip underneath and without leggings.
In this case I’ve just popped a UNIQLO HeatTech tank underneath (if you haven’t checked out this collection at UNIQLO, do so immediately … the fabric is so soft and lightweight but each piece in this collection will keep you super toasty in winter) … when it cools down, I’d add a longer sleeve.
So tell me, do you find yourself discussing the weather more than usual of late? Like a tunic/leggings combo for autumn/winter?

Do you think this will work for breastfeeding? I’m 31 weeks pregnant and this looks like it’s generous enough to fit both during and after pregnancy, but if the top will open enough I am sold!
There’s no button to the opening Anna so I’m not sure it would be low enough sorry.
Ah, what a shame. Thanks anyway 🙂
a great outfit! I love it on you and the model nikki!
i love uniqlo too! i have 2 linen shirts and i love them! just saying!
love m:)X
Oh this is nice 🙂 I’m clicking the link as I write!
Wow, I love this! It sounds like it would even work for my figure (generously endowed in the bust area), and I love the blue print. Definitely something to put on my wish list!
I’m definitely a “dress for comfort” girl. On Winter weekends you will almost always find me in a leggings/tunic combo! xx
We have another week of 30 degree days up here Lisa! I NEED autumn 🙂 x
You look great Nikki, am going to have a look at the kimono right now! As I live in Canberra, I talk about the weather a lot, especially at the change of seasons like now, when we can have two days of mid twenties followed by cold nights and days in the teens. Layering is essential, and I too am a huge fan of the Uniqlo basics to wear under even a dress up evening outfit when a coat would be too much.
Crazy time of year for you with that kind of weather swinging! And yes, the UNIQLO heattech pieces would be ideal for that. The kimono tunic is a fab piece.
What a gorgeous print, I love the blue especially. Like Lisa, I talk to my Dad everyday about the weather. He will be out in his garden right now before it gets too hot, deadheading his roses and spraying or fertilising something. Maybe checking his massive pawpaw crop which he is also obsessed with 🙂 I am so over the heat! Kathryn 🙂
LOL. I love it Kathryn. And yes, I think we are all over it. Has gone on too long! I looked back on photos from this time last year and I was wearing more layers x
