The Model and Me: Louenhide

Hello to all those lucky enough to be enjoying the September school holidays by the beach.

I had a taste of that across the weekend, celebrating our anniversary with a kid-free weekend in Noosa.

The weather has been surprisingly and unseasonably cool (for Queensland) and I did get a little caught by surprise with the outfits I’d packed.

It should be kaftan season already but if you’re heading out in the evenings, we’re still needing a jacket, light knit or wrap.

During the day it’s another story. Kaftan me up.

I first spotted this new-season kaftan number from Brisbane-based label Louenhide at the Mercedes-Benz Brisbane Fashion Festival last month.

It was love at first sight. The design is the same as one I wore from Louenhide last spring/summer but colour is different – a spectacular print of cobalt, black and white.

The model

Louenhide kaftan | MBFF Brisbane 2015

Louenhide Santorini kaftan $189.95 | MBFF Brisbane 2015

and me

Louenhide Santorini kaftan | Karen Walker sunglasses | Swarovski bracelet | Dinosaur Designs ring | Zoe Kratzmann heels

Louenhide Santorini kaftan* | Karen Walker sunglasses | Swarovski bracelet | Dinosaur Designs ring | Zoe Kratzmann heels* (Location: Sheraton Noosa Resort)

This is a one-size-fits-most style. I’m a size 16 hips and there is plenty of room so would fit up to a size 18.

If you are a smaller size, not a fan of the over-sized look but love the print (what’s not to love?), then check out the Louenhide Jilly dress. It’s sized in small, medium and large. The large size does fit me but it is a shorter style so take that into account when considering what might work for you.

The kaftan is 100% polyester but I don’t find it problematic in terms of being to hot to wear. It seems breathable and the style certainly allows for airflow.

What is great about this fabric is that you can wash it in the machine (cold wash, gentle).

I’ve shown a dressed up version of how to wear this kaftan but it would equally be at home worn with flats and over a swimsuit.

Which is the prime reason I love this style of dress. I can make it work for any occasion and take it on a weekend away – or holiday – and it will work even harder for you.

Who’s ready and excited for kaftan season?

  1. I have definitely added this to my ‘wishlist’ and I’m also loving the shoes, is the ankle strap generous in size Nikki? I’m not a fan of a tight ankle strap and I don’t own the most slender ankles 😉

  2. Love this on you Nikki! Polyester is very versatile, I am thinking maybe a slip dress under for this look? I will be hunting out a nice kaftan this Summer, after seeing the ways you have shown us to wear them in this post and others. Hope it was a wonderful break for you x

  3. You look lovely Nikki, I love the pattern of the kaftan.I do love a kaftan styled dress as you know but have to be careful they don’t swamp me and also the length, not too short these days!
I’m glad you had a lovely break, you certainly deserve it Nikki Xx

  4. Love the print, blue black and white, my favourite colours together in one. I wouldn’t have thought about wearing this, if I only saw it on the model. But on you, so different. I feel like I could. Beautiful Nikki. 🙂 (Hope you had a fantastic weekend)
