Winter teacher holiday style

Editor’s note: sharing her style on the blog is What The Teacher Wears blogger, Alex Paterson. I met Alex at one of my Brisbane book launches – after I *met* her on Instagram and discovered that there is a whole world out there of teachers sharing their style. It’s far from the teacher style I knew back in the day and even if you’re not a teacher you’ll be inspired by what these women have to share.

Ok teachers, be honest, who has stayed in their pyjamas for that little bit longer since the holidays have begun?!

Don’t worry, I am guilty too.

I guess it’s our way to rebel since our days are so structured and timetabled.

But unfortunately, there comes a time when the pjs must come off and then you ask yourself – what will I wear today?

Just because you’re on holidays, doesn’t mean your style needs to be too.

Holidays are a time for going through your wardrobe and wearing the things that you want to wear.

Because you’re on holidays!

A few months ago I did a post right here on Styling You, about how to update you autumn/winter teacher wardrobe here.

I am a big believer in wardrobe staples, just like Nikki herself.

A good wardrobe is based on solid staples that will last year after year, season after season.

As teachers, we all should have our staple teacher wardrobe.

In my last post, I showed you what my staple teacher wardrobe consist of:

  • A white button collared shirt
  • A sturdy bag in a neutral colour
  • A hat
  • A black pencil skirt
  • Comfy flats
  • An everyday dress
  • A fitted blazer
  • A go to pair of pants

Now just because these items are included in my staple teacher wardrobe, doesn’t mean that you can’t rock them out on the holidays or the weekends.

To wear these items in winter, it’s all about layering.

E.g. add a coat and scarf over your white shirt or thick tights and boots with your skirt.

This is an outfit I would wear shopping or catching up with friends.

Black Skirt Holiday Look

  1. SHEIKE Jacket $219.95 │ 2. Country Road Tights $39.95│ 3. Country Road Skirt $79.95│ 4. Witchery Shirt $59.95│ 5. Frankie4Footwear Boots $199.95 │

A huge trend right now is sports luxe.

Perfect for those who find it hard to depart from their pjs.

The best way that I find to describe this trend is similar to glamping (glamour camping).

It is basically wearing your gym gear, but giving it a more sophisticated look.

Perfect for catching up on those errands that we never get time to do during the week.

The best part, you can play around with this trend and incorporate some of your staple pieces from your wardrobe.

Do this by

  • Adding a crop over your white shirt
  • Teaming your blazer with drop crutch pants
  • Wearing sneakers with dresses
  • Adding an oversized workout top with black pants

Sports Luxe

  1. MARCS Shirt $99.95 │ 2. Whattheteachers Necklace $29.95│ 3. Lorna Jane Pants $79.95│ 4. SHEIKE Jacket $99.95│ 5. Tony Bianco Slides $99.95 │

Style Runner is an online site dedicated to this trend.

If you don’t go to the gym, it doesn’t matter. Anyone can rock the sports luxe look.

The thing that I love about holidays, is that they are a great time to catch up with friends, especially teacher friends.

We are so busy throughout the school term, that unfortunately, our social lives can be forgotten about at times.

Why not organise a night out with the girls?

Hey, why night go all out and make a week night.

I know that most of us would hardly ever make plans on a week night.

If you are going to an unknown venue and are unsure of the dress code, then your staple black pants are a must.

Black pants are very versatile and can be worn from day to night.

A quick transition of accessories or shoes and you’re ready to go!

Black Pants

  1. Seed Pants $99.95 │ 2. SABA Top $180.00│ 3. Colette by Colette Hayman Bag $24.95 │ 4. ZU Heels $150│ 5. Country Road Cape $229.00 │

Capes are the IT piece to have in your wardrobe this season.

If you are wearing a satchel bag, wear it across your body under your cape for a very chic look.

Although it is only the start of July, the stores are filling up quickly with spring stock.

It’s time to start prepping your wardrobe ladies.

Have a look at what you will need for spring, and make those purchases soon.

I am already eyeing off my summer sandals.

These holidays, I have already worn different styles to go with what my plans are for the day.

I dress for the occasion and if there isn’t one, then sports luxe it is.

Well maybe, a little less luxe.

It’s holiday time afetr all.

What’s your holiday style?

  1. These outfits are great Alex. Love the black skirt outfit combo. I’m not a teacher, but agree that you need to be able to mix up how you wear your clothes. I’ve heard some people say that they have separate work and play wardrobes…..I don’t really have enough clothes to be quite that specific. Except of course for suit wear (skirts, jackets), which I would NEVER wear on a weekend!

  2. Gorgeous outfit Alex ,I follow you on Instagram (queenofthrift) you have such a chic style….enjoy your holidays Alex Xx
