Editor’s note: Please welcome today’s guest blogger: Gillian Moody from Champagne Cartel. With an extensive background as a professional makeup artist, she is sharing her secret tips on how to easily achieve beautiful night makeup with Styling You readers.

I don’t know about you but I love being invited to a party. Champagne, girlfriends, giggles – hurrah!

On the downside there is something slightly disconcerting about knowing you have a fabulous evening event to attend, but being a busy woman, you’ll have to head straight there from work. Or you’ll have to rush home from your day, feed and put the kids to bed and race back out again.

Either way it doesn’t leave a lot of time for beautification!

Well, I have the solution. And I think you are going to like me for this one.

The secret to great night time makeup is simple. Just whack it on straight over the top of the daytime makeup.

Think of it as a touch-up. On steroids.

Yep, you totally have permission not to shower or even bother with washing off that pesky daytime face.

Bear with me, I know it sounds weird and maybe a teeny bit gross. But trust me, it isn’t; there are a few tricks I’ve learnt over the years from being a makeup artist and party-loving lady that will make the whole thing work like a charm.

The thing is that I always recommend heavier makeup for a night time gig anyway. So essentially your daytime makeup will provide a beautiful base to ensure you stay looking absolutely gorgeous all night long.

Fresh makeup does actually take a little time to ‘set’ so if you’re in a rush, this is actually the best way to get great looking makeup that won’t slide off your face the minute you enter a warm, crowded venue.

It’s a staged process, here’s how you do it.

Stage 1 – The morning of the event

1. BB Cream applied | 2. Light coloured eyeshadow applied | 3. & 4. Finished!

You are going to apply your makeup as usual but with the following little changes:

Use a BB cream or a tinted moisturiser instead of foundation. It will keep your skin hydrated all day and you will be able to still apply a layer of foundation in the evening without it looking like it is caked on.

Skip mascara and eyeliner. It is almost impossible to freshen up eyeliner and mascara that has been on your eyes all day as it is usually pretty firmly dried on.

Choose light coloured eyeshadow. This will provide a lovely base to the darker evening makeup you are going to apply.

Pack your makeup bag for the evening. A few strategic choices will ensure you have everything covered and leave nothing to chance. Include some travel size containers of foundation and perfume, that way you definitely won’t be feeling like a packhorse!

Stage 2 – Before you head off to the event

1. Foundation & first layer of eyeshadow | 2. Completed eyeshadow with eyeliner & mascara | 3. & 4. Bronzer, cheeks, brows and lippie. Finished!

Put in some eye drops if you need them (my eyes can be a little red at the end of the day from being in front of a computer) and give your lips a good rub with a tissue to remove any traces lipstick from the day. Blot your face to get rid of any excess oil.

Spritz your face with a beautiful refreshing spray.

Apply your foundation. For evening, it’s better to have slightly heavier foundation, especially if you are going to be photographed with a flash.

Put on your eyeshadow. Just apply straight over the top of anything you are already wearing, and then lashings of eyeliner and mascara. Why not try an eyeshadow that is a little darker or bolder than you normally would?

Brush on your powder or bronzer. Then apply an illuminator around the ‘high points’ of the face; that is, the cheek bones, bridge of the nose, and brow bones.

Pencil in and comb your eyebrows. I like to do this near the end so I can remove any bits of powder or bronzer that may have fallen in my brows.

Apply fresh lipstick. Colours such as plum and claret are so glamorous for evening and wonderfully on trend at the moment.

A quick spritz with your favourite perfume and you are good to go, ladycakes!
