The Model and Me: Binny

Can we all pause for a moment and remember a time when Wednesday nights were devoted to all things Nina Proudman?

For those new to Styling You, Nina Proudman is/was a fictional character on the hit Australian TV series, Offspring.

Right about this time of year we’d be in the thick of laughing out loud and weeping into our cups of tea/glasses of wine as we followed along with the life and times of the whole Proudman family.

And every week I’d be tracking down all kinds of Offspring-style inspiration to bring you in a blog post each Thursday.

I’m still in denial that it’s all over. There’s never been any final word to the contrary. And Patrick showing up on Love Child doesn’t seal the deal for me either.

I know … it’s a lovely place of delusion in which my mind resides.

Anyhoo, the reason for my reminiscing is all about today’s Model and Me post – I’m featuring pieces from Australian label Binny, a label I was introduced to thanks to Offspring.

Binny is a label that seems to create that perfect combination of effortless casual but with pieces that make statements through their design, prints and fabrics.

Today, I’m featuring a top and a coat from the current collection. Here they are on the model.

The model

Binny AW15 | Binny The Shetland top | Labrador Island coat

Binny The Shetland top $189 | Labrador Island coat $360

and me

Binny top and coat | Harlow Australia jeans | MIX Apparel clutch | Misano Shoes heels

LEFT: Binny top (I’m wearing size 16)* | Harlow Australia jeans | Frankie4 Footwear JAMiE boots

RIGHT: Binny top and coat (I’m wearing size 16)* | Harlow Australia jeans | MIX Apparel clutch | Misano Shoes heels*

Stripes are very much a Binny trademark and this combination of white with khaki and pale blue pinstripes is a stunner.

It’s a linen/cotton mix and includes pockets with a blanket-stitch feature. The cut is a flattering one as creates shape around the waist but then skims the hips.

I’ve teamed it with black skinny jeans but it would work with indigo denim as well. I’d also wear this top with a pencil skirt. Leather is always a good idea to dress up and contrast with a natural fibre mix such as this.

The black coat is all kinds of amazing. It’s 100% wool and cut so beautifully. Its clean lines skim the body and it offers up fabulous warmth without the bulk and weight of some coats.

I absolutely love the blanket stitch detail and the press-stud concealed buttons. It’s the kind of coat you’d have forever your wardrobe as it works for an evening as well as daytime casual outfit.

In this look, I’ve shown how you can take the top, jeans and flat boots outfit and switch to an evening or daytime meeting look with the addition of the coat and these fabulous two-tone suede pumps from Misano Shoes. I’ve not got time for complicated costume changes and this is how I like my wardrobe to work for me.

Now, it is at the end of the autumn-winter fashion season, so there is limited stock available of both of these pieces. You might also be lucky to pick up a piece from the many stockists around Australia which stock Binny. Please email here with your postcode for a stockist near you.

  1. I never watched the final series of Offspring and still haven’t gotten round to buying it on DVD yet…one day!

Nikki I have to ask – how big IS your wardrobe? LOL Do you keep all the clothes you’re gifted or do you pass/sell them on? [Hence the how big is your wardrobe question!].

    1. One very LONG day Rach!

My wardrobe is not big – it is well edited. I keep my off-season clothes in a cupboard in my office and keep a trans-seasonal wardrobe in our shared small walk-in robe. Each season, I go through all of my wardrobe and only keep the things that are still in good condition and also are timeless. The balance I donate to my charity of choice, Dress for Success, which I also fundraise for and speak at when asked.

      1. Thank you for replying!

Reading back, it was possibly a bit of a rude question to ask but it was something I always wondered because you must get a lot of clothes!

  2. Hi Erin … we can talk about it … the cut is still the same as what you see when my hair is straight. Meghan at The Blow Dry Room Paddington (Brisbane) does my hair for shoots and wanted to try this and I love it. Hair is blowdried straight first and then curled with a ghd. The back section is teased up a bit and dust is added for hold.

    1. Hi Catherine … how I do it, is that I get online and book an appointment at my local blow dry bar – The Blow Dry Room – Meghan wanted to try this and I love it. Hair is blowdried straight first and then curled with a ghd. The back section is teased up a bit and dust is added for hold.

  3. It can’t be the end of Offspring… surely not? Maybe they’re all just on a family holiday… #delusionalfan
As for Binny. There’s a leather jacket of theirs I can’t help but stroke every time I see it in store. So soft and well tailored and divine. x

  4. This is a gorgeous look on you. I love a striped top and bought another one yesterday (Trenery on sale) ! I won’t bore you with how much I miss Offspring, only to say my Wednesday nights are not the same, and I miss my Thursday Nina post just as much. I am grateful for one thing though, if it wasn’t for Offspring I wouldn’t have found your blog !

  5. I miss Nina and her family and friends too, but I’m not looking at your outift as I must not spend any more money until my holiday.

  6. Gorgeous Nikki,a great coat never goes out of style,I have a charcoal Italian wool coat that was my grandmothers and it’s still a classic piece.
