I’m so excited to take my regular Model and Me posts up a notch again today with a new Movie Star and Me post featuring Blue Illusion ambassador Juliette Binoche.

The award-winning actor epitomises all that is chic about French women and her work with French-inspired Blue Illusion on its autumn-winter 2015 campaign is nothing short of exquisite.

Or should that be … exquis.

Oui Oui, I think yes.

If you are in any way, shape or form a francophile, do get your hands on Blue Illusion’s L’Edition winter magazine (the online version is here).

You’ll find an insight into the Juliette’s Parisian world, as well as the world of artist Nathalie Lete (her artwork features on a range of Blue Illusion scarves) and 17 ideas for how to spend a day in Paris.

I’ve taken notes and circled my fave of the 17 for our planned two nights in The City of Light at the end of June. And yes, I’m very much counting down the days until then. I haven’t been to Paris since I was 12 and even at that age it left an impression on me.

As for Juliette in her fave picks from Blue Illusion’s autumn-winter collection, stunning does not even come close to describing how this woman with such beauty and presence seemingly woos the camera before her.

I’ve tried to do my best to do Juliette justice in this dress, which appears on the cover of L’Edition. Let’s take a look, shall we?

This is so one of those dresses that you’ll buy now and wonder how you ever lived without it.

For starters, it has the dress up/dress down qualities I like to look for in a frock. Whenever you apply this rule to frock buying you instantly extend your wardrobe.

Yes, I’ve gone for the dressed-up look here because I fell in love with the wool stole when in store (not to mention the return of the Pearly Whites necklace – my fave from last summer) and immediately saw the possibilities of this dress for anyone attending an autumn or winter wedding or any other special occasion this season. You’d have the warmth of the wool (I can report it’s not scratchy wool) but without the bulk in a figure flattering shape.

When the occasion is done and dusted, this dress could easily become part of your casual and work wardrobe.

For casual: team this dress with tights, scarf, flat ankle or knee-high boots and a coat if needed for warmth.

For work: team with a black blazer, hosiery and closed in shoe (why not leopard print for a statement?).

The skirt falls from just under the bust. If this is too high for some then add a belt like Juliette has done. For me it’s a perfect waist position for lengthening my torso.

The length is great for me too (I’m 166cm) and it falls just at the bottom of my knee.

If you’re a breastfeeding mum, simply wear this dress with the buttons at the front. In any case, wearing the dress this way would offer a completely different look and might even work better for casual.

Being a blue-eyed girl, I just LOVE the colour – it’s not as electric a blue as it appears in the photo of Juliette. It’s more of a cornflower blue.

The essentials

L’Edition also highlights this season’s essentials – the key pieces you need in your winter wardrobe.

Apart from a go-to dress like featured above, a winter wardrobe needs jeans that fit and flatter, boots and a scarf or two (you can never have too many in my style book).

When I first set my eyes on the tunic I’m wearing below, I pinpointed it as my fave everyday piece of the collection. This was back in January when I visited the Blue Illusion showroom in Melbourne and could not even imagine wearing a knit anything.

Trying it on for this shoot, confirmed my original thoughts. It’s a wardrobe keeper – one you’ll have for a long time and one that you can wear so many different ways and always look effortlessly stylish, yet comfortable.

Here’s the look I put together. I’ve worn the tunic without a long-sleeve tee underneath but this could easily be added for warmth – and you could layer a long cardi or coat on top as well.

It also features the skinny leg bengajean in black. Now, if you’re already a bengajean convert you won’t need my telling you about the magic leg-lengthening properties of this style of pant. I love the skinny in the black as a more dressy alternative to indigo denim. The non-zip and pocket front of the bengajean works a treat for creating a smooth line for anything you wear over the top.

And if you prefer you denim with a zip front the Le Raquel shaping jean is back.

I gave them the thumbs up in this post last winter (Le Isabelle is no longer available). You simply must try these jeans if you’re still struggling to find a pair of jeans that feels like you’re wearing soft pants – they’re that comfortable.

  1. Gorgeous dress the blue is the perfect colour for you, that stole is the perfect compliment to the dress. It can hard to find a beautiful evening dress for winter but this is perfect. Love the black jeans, they are very flattering.

  2. Love the blue dress, very flattering. Then I spotted the grey tunic and loved it until I saw the SHORT SLEEVES!! Why oh why do designers keep doing a short sleeve? Particularly for their Autumn/Winter range..? At least go to a 3/4 if not wrist length, so much more flattering and practical. I might just have to start designing my own…

    1. I’m actually greatful for the short sleeve as where I live a long-sleeve knit has limited use. I can layer under or over this to suit the day’s temperature. If it were a long sleeve I’d have to take the whole thing off by midday in a QLD winter. The Blue Illusion site shows it being worn with a long-sleeve underneath.

    2. I agree, walked past so many of the lovely styles for last season because the mini sleeve was so unflattering for my L XL size. Love that we are catered for but longer sleeves please!

  3. Thank you Nikki! I am 35 weeks pregnant and trying to find breast feeding friendly dresses so the tip about the back buttons was very helpful – I rushed in and bought the dress yesterday using my voucher!

  4. Gorgeous outfits- I love blue dresses. On a side note, how comfortable are those trio boots? I have been eyeing them up but I walk about 40 minutes each day so I need something sturdy yet comfortable.

  5. Ooh la la! Magnifique! Love both looks. And if I can add to your Paris itinerary… head to Bar La Vue on the 34th floor at Hotel Concorde La Fayette for happy hour at dusk. It has an incredible view over all the entire city and, as the sun sets, watch the Eiffel Tower twinkle in the distance as you toast to the magic that is Paris. x

  6. That is a great dress! And I love your accessories too – and this is why I love ‘The model and me’ so much – it’s great to see it on a real person!

  7. Love that dress on you, Nikki.

If I can add to your Paris planning I’d highly recommend the gardens at the Rodin Museum. I have seen these lovely grounds being set up for a fashion show and a ball. It only costs one or two Euro to enter; you’ll be surrounded by art students sketching, you can check out the sculptures, have coffee and a light meal in the beautiful gardens or just walk around taking in beautiful Paris.

  8. Simply stunning Nikki,I adore both outfits on you and I’m very excited for you for your trip to Europe,I hope you are going to share lots of IG pics for us.Thank you for the voucher Xx

  9. both are great outfits nikki!

  10. Oh my goodness, that dress looks fantastic on you. What a beautiful colour and classic style! I will definitely be making my way to Blue Illusion to try it on. Love the second outfit too.
