Hello, welcome to the monthly beauty post where I feature five of my favourite beauty products I’ve been trialling for the past month.

Not everything I feature will suit you but I’ll feature it here if it has suited me and has had some point of difference that I think you’d be interested in hearing about.

From the five beauty favourites featured here each month until November plus any products I feature in other beauty posts in 2015, I’ll curate my top 20 for the year and publish in December.

As always, I want to hear from you too. Sharing what you’ve discovered and why it’s been great for your skin, hair or makeup look is fantastic for others to hear about too.

April 2015 beauty favourites

1. Burt’s Bees Facial Cleansing Towelettes $9.99: It’s no secret around here that I love a facial wipe. I never leave home without them and they’re always in my beauty kit for a lazy-girl removal of makeup and grime at the end of the day. This formula is for normal to oily skin but I’m a sucker for anything pink grapefruit and I’ve found the formula not too drying on my skin. There are 30 wipes in a pack. (Not tested on animals and free from parabens, phthalates, petrolatum or SLS)

2. NEEK Vegan lipstick in whole lotta rosie $38: This is a brand new Australian natural lipstick range and my lips are loving it. They get the nourishment of a lip balm but with a colour that’s good enough to eat. This range is rich in Vitamins E and B, jojoba oil and shea butter. Sweet orange peel essential oil adds soothing, anti-inflammatory properties and makes it taste damn good on your lips.

3. Urban Decay All Nighter Long Lasting Makeup Setting Spray $44:  In my on-going quest to keep makeup in place on my face during the mostly humid and sticky months of a Queensland summer, I jumped at this purchase when Urban Decay landed in Australia last month at Mecca Maxima. It’s a light spray that you spritz in an X and T shape once your makeup is complete – keep it about 20-25cm away while spraying. It will keep your makeup looking fresh for up to 16 hours.

4. Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Perfectly Satin 24HR foundation $50: I first mentioned this foundation in this post, sharing a photo of me wearing it. If you’re still looking for a foundation with a matte finish that stays, this is definitely worth checking out. I’ve had great success with it lasting and keeping that even finish in place all day. I love the finish for an event or occasion as I know I don’t need to worry about touch-ups. It’s worth getting colour matched on this one at an Elizabeth Arden counter.

5. Spud Sponge $15: Help your cleansing routine along with this super soft sponge. The sponge is made from pure Konjac – an Asian vegetable in the potato family. I actually eat Konjac in noodles (Slim pasta) so was fascinated to try this out. The sponge’s original form is smaller and solid but under water in five minutes it doubles in size to soft and, well, spongey. And importantly it’s natural, sustainable and biodegradable. Use alone or with a cream cleanser. The white one pictured is for those with sensitive skin. (Not tested on animals)

  1. HI Nikki Im also a skin care junkie and my fav products are natural oils. I love the Swisse Argan Oil face oil and I also discovered a New Zealand brand called Essano …their night cream is divine ! I use it fro day as well as its so creamy and contains rosehip oil. I beleive in creating a flawless skin by using natural products so you dont have to wear much make up at all.

  2. I recently purchased the UD setting spray & have to say I’m pretty impressed. I can see it getting a lot of use during our lovely humid Brisbane days!

  5. I am a bit boring Nikki I’ve gone back to my beloved Dermalogica barrier repair cream as I know it works for my skin,I also have been using 3 drops of Trilogy Rosehip oil morning and night as a serum, but I have found a new product that is lovely and has helped my skin recover from the rash and dryness the Garnier miracle skin did to it.It’sModel Co Repleshing Rose Mist, all natural ingredients and made in Australia I use it after cleansing and smells like roses and It would be great in summer for hot sticky days.
Thank you for sharing your beauty product reviews Nikki Xx

  6. Hi Nikki, I am often confused as to why you use such toxic chemicals on your skin considering you suffer with an autoimmune disease, and then promote them to others? I really do love your blog and all the fashion tips, I am just feeling compelled to share with you my thoughts now. The skin is our largest organ and will absorb all those poisonous chemicals, further compromising an already compromised immune system. Ok, that’s my rant finished 🙂 Now I’d like to share with you an awesome product that I have discovered and is truly amazing. It is a skincare range from NZ and it is called NAHAIA. Absolutely no nasties, no heavy metals, no animal testing, nothing toxic. It is full of active ingredients and even uses natural preservatives (essential oils). Hope this helps any of your readers who are looking for a truly ‘clean’ product as I have been for 12 months now. Jules

    1. Thanks Jules, there are many, many more things I could be doing for my immune system. I choose a balance in all things. As I do with my skincare. Here on the blog I need to share a range of different options for different people with different preferences and that’s what I aim to do.

  7. Good morning, last week at the supermarket I popped the Garnier Miracle Skin Cream into the trolley after reading about it here. I LOVE it. It is my fave beauty product I have bought for ages. It feels fantastic on and evens out my skin and makes it look soft and glowy. You could just wear it on its on or with powder but I am wearing it under BB creams. And this week it was on special for $15.99 – insane value! Thanks for recommending it. Amanda xx
