The Model and Me: Metalicus

Did you know that I owe the very concept of my Model and Me posts to the label Metalicus – five and a half years ago?

True.

I’d been asked to be a model in a boutique’s Metalicus season-launch fashion parade.

This boutique wanted to feature real women of different sizes to demonstrate how the mostly one-size-fits-all label fits a range of different shapes.

I’d long been a fan even then, first embracing Metalicus when pregnant with Master SY.

Sure, not all styles that Metalicus releases suit me but there is always plenty that does.

It’s far from being label just for my petite style sisters.

In this post, I’m featuring a relaxed outfit from Metalicus’ autumn-winter collection that very much appeals to the soft pant girl in me.

 The model

Metalicus Adriana knit | Luna tank top | Columbus pants

Metalicus Adriana knit $129.95 | Luna tank top $59.95 | Columbus pants $129.95

and me

Metalicus Adriana knit | Luna tank top | Columbus pants | Freya & Sabine espadrilles | Uberkate necklace

 Metalicus Adriana knit* $129.95 | Luna tank top* $59.95 | Columbus pants* $129.95 | Freya & Sabine espadrilles* $129 | Uberkate necklace

So, we ventured south on the weekend and I actually got to experience weather in which this kind of outfit would be appropriate.

I miss that weather already.

I love a soft pant occasion and I actually wore these ones on the plane Friday night and Saturday morning before changing for our family reunion lunch.

Like each of the pieces I’m wearing, they only come in the one size. In regards to the pants, this means I have less of the low-drape action happening, which I’m ok with.

Plus, the pants are more tapered around the ankles on me – something I prefer as it makes it possible to wear them pulled up on the calf.

The waistband is thick and adjustable with a tie (I didn’t have to tie it tighter ;)) and there are pockets. Winning. The viscose/elastane mix is so, so soft – ideal for travel or just lounging around.

The knit is a cropped style that I generally steer away from but when layered with a longer scooped hemline tank, it works without boxing me out around the bust. There is a 30% wool content – and as someone who often finds a wool blend itchy, I did not find it with this piece. It’s out of stock online but check in store for availability.

Let’s talk about the shoes.

If you’ve been following along on Instagram, you would have seen me wearing these fun espadrilles. I just love the pop of leopard and love this style of shoe as a great trans-seasonal alternative. They work with both pants and casual knit dresses.

  1. I wear a lot of Metalicus and it’s great to see this knit on a real person with a bust 🙂 I have been eyeing it in black and am petite and busty. The outfit is lovely on you. You may have just tipped me over the edge:)

  2. Love the label but a lot doesn’t fit me.
I tried on 7 dresses last winter, only 2 fitted and Im not paying $150-$200 for a dress and then pay more to have it altered to fit.

But I LOVE what fits me.

  3. While I like the model’s slouchy relaxed look, I prefer less of the ‘low drape action” myself (as per your pic). I think a couple of Metalicus pieces are must for all wardrobes.

  4. I actually think the soft pants look better on you than the model. Love soft pants. They were the best hing last year post c section!

  5. Love the pants on you Nikki – they look so comfy! Not sure about the dropped crotch on the model though… E xo

  6. Looking fabulous! Loving those wintery colours and textures…. and the pop of leopard, of course. You’re the second busty blogger babe to (totally) rock a crop with a long top underneath – and I’ve gotta say, I’m convinced! Loving this look. A fresh, modern update on a perfect A/W casual weekend outfit. x

  7. I prefer these pants and jumper on you Nikki. I have been eyeing the jumper off on the website, but it looks a bit ‘blousy’ on the sleeves – on the model. I didn’t even look at the pants because they look like ‘poo catchers’ on the model, so much better on you. Now I want a pair – jeez thanks for that haha! It’s been a little cooler here, rainy morning etc. Bet you loved the Melbourne weather! 🙂

    1. poo catchers. Snort! I think, like you I think, that it’s a hideous look on the model … on Nikki they look amazing.

  9. I like these pants better on you Nikki, especially with the legs hitched up onto the calf.

I was on the soft paints train and I have a few pairs, but of late I have decided I look better in something a bit more structured, so I have been wearing chino type pants or jeans as my casual pants of choice for going out and travel.
That being said, the soft pants are still getting a workout at home. Can’t beat them for lying on the lounge on a cool day.

  10. Doesn’t look like you are wearing “dropped” crutch pants – have you pulled them higher in the waist? They look great – need to get myself a pair or two.

  11. I’ve got the shorter version of these pants and loove them! Think I’ll be investing in the longer ones now too. Love this whole outfit.

  12. Those shoes go perfectly with the rest of that outfit! I have yet to try this style of pants, but may have to do a shopping trip soon.

  13. Lovely Nikki ,yes I love a soft pant ,I wore soft pants yesterday while I recovered from the party and it was cooler and rainy, the perfect day for a soft pant.
I like these pants better on you than the model as I’m not a fan of a low drop crotch,I’m glad you had a lovely weekend away Nikki and embraced the cooler weather Xx
