The Model and Me: Everyday Cashmere

Nikki ParkinsonFashion, The Model and Me 39 Comments

My parents arrived yesterday from their now home base in the UK. Let’s just say that the aircon was cranking in an attempt to acclimatise them as best we could.

I could only apologise for the non-autumn weather we’re currently experiencing in Queensland and assured them that relief was in sight … when they headed on their planned trip to Melbourne in a couple of weeks.

In the interests of planning ahead for when it does cool down – and for helping out those who are already experiencing cooler weather – today’s Model and Me post involved me taking one for the team.

Yes, for this shoot, I turned on the aircon and dressed in clothes I’m more likely to wear on an everyday basis closer to winter. You’re welcome.

The feature piece here is one that is also a travel essential and one I’ll be packing with me for wearing on the plane to Thailand next month and Europe in June.

Jen Hart started Everyday Cashmere in 2008 when she was travelling a lot with three children and needed clothes that were light and could be worn in multiple situations.

Each year she’s continued to build on that first range, offering little slices of luxury that can be worn every day.

What I particularly love about this shrug is that unlike other cashmere wraps I’ve had in the past, it sits over your head so doesn’t fall off.

This might seem crazy but when you are travelling the last thing you want to be worried about is finding that the wrap that once was around your neck is now dragging along the ground and getting caught up in the wheels of your suitcase. Sadly, I share this fear from personal experience.

Yes, you could just wear a light knit but I also like the feeling of being wrapped in your own blanket. So this 100% cashmere shrug seemingly answers all my travel needs.

You can position it so that has a v-neck, scoop neck or sits like a short poncho. It’s super soft and light. I love this silver marle colour but the same design is also available in black, white, dark red, berry and camel if any of those colours are more you thing.

I’ve worn over a tee here but in cold weather you could layer another knit or long-sleeve top underneath.

I’ve also teamed it with leather-look pants and espadrilles.

The pants are the Juliette pants from Blue Illusion – they don’t seem to be available online any more but you might find some in store. I bought mine about a month ago. They are The Business – cut the same as the bengajean but with a tapered sport luxe leg. They are super comfortable and flattering.

A pop of animal print is always a good idea and this espadrille style is on-trend. It’s a great alternative to a ballet flat for the trans-seasonal/pre-boot months. Don’t fancy animal print? This design also comes in silver, charcoal and “snake reflect” (a shimmery nude colour).

If you travel what’s your wrap style of choice for keeping warm on a plane? Or just warm on an autumn evening?

  1. Love this shrug looks so warm, soft and comfy, definitely getting it (after much debate with myself lol) and I love the silver marl you are wearing!

  2. I’ve used a thicker wrap on a plane to double as a blanket, so I can save on the “extras” but this shrug is beautiful and I’d wear it everywhere!

  3. I do love a large blanket wrap, but I hear you re slipping off. I tend to use mine on-board the aircraft (better than the scratchy airline options); and as a scarf when I get to my destination. Great for in cooler a/c hotel rooms too. The option you model is a fab idea too…for my next trip?x

  4. Love love the shrug, just checking that the one you are wearing is the silver marl?? because when I click on it the colour looks like the one the model is wearing.

  5. Love it! Your pants are amazing! The shoes are the perfect pop. I like that the shrug goes over head and can’t get caught or dragged.

  6. I think that outfit is fantastic for winter. Love how you’ve styled it. I’m going to Blue Illusion tomorrow so I’ll try it on! I was wondering how you managed to have it on in the Qld heat!! I bet you whipped it off real fast 🙂 Melbourne is gorgeous right now – early 20’s during the day, and early teens at night – perfect for your family.

  7. I have a number of items of clothing specifically for travelling – my parents and brother are in the UK so we head over quite regularly. My most recent purchase was an Everyday Cashmere wrap cardigan – I love it – it’s very snuggly and warm, and yet light at the same time. I have found it really useful as an extra layer for cool evenings here and trips to Melbourne etc.

I’ve also bought a few pairs of Mela Purdie leggings (the ones with the seams that are look Ok to wear as pants) which are great for travelling and a few things from Paula Ryan – singlets and long sleeve t’shirts that can be layered.

I love the shrug but as I’ve just bought a pair of Frankie 4 black lace ups and a Bohemian Traders striped dress – thanks to you Nikki , I might need to curb the spending for a while at least. Although I’ve been coveting your UberKate necklace recently too…

      1. I like Sarah above have been talked into spending quite a bit lately by you! One for the future but I am loving the berry!

  9. you look great nikki! … that would be sooo soft!
just what I need here in Melbourne! and yes it is autumn here hun! … lovely!
yes my scarf became semi detatched and twisted with one end dragging behind me! … too excited about the new boots I expect;0 … oh well definitely all good! … loving the food and this Victorian aesthetic! love m:)X

  10. I recently travelled by air to New Zealand and would have happily worn something similar on the top half. Instead I wore my leather-look pants, heeled sandals also in black, a short sleeved knit top and carried a patterned pashmina which came in handy on the plane. Love how you styled this look, Nikki! x

  11. I love this wrap Nikki, wraps ponchos and lovely big scarves are some of my favourite things in winter as it gets very cold here especially in the mornings when we’ve had a heavy frost and I do adore cashmere,it’s so soft and light but warm!
I do feel for you though having to wear winter clothes in this heat, very happy that the aircon was cranking, lovely model and me post Nikki Xx

  12. Great outfit Nikki!
I love a bit of cashmere in the cooler months and it is great for travel, so light and warm for layering. I have a camel coloured cashmere waterfall/wrap cardigan I have had for more than 15 years that I still love- always makes me think of sitting by a fire on weekends away.

  13. I know its one the $$$ side but its cashmere and it’s my go to for travel, standing on sport sidelines, any outdoor activity i want to inject a bit of chic in keeping warm. I have a rust coloured pashmina that i flip around me for both winter colour and warmth. I love this shrug and I love your pants and those espadrilles and snake reflect in the boots

  14. I don’t know what I’m more excited about – that shrug or the thought of weather cool enough to wear it! Seriously, I think it’s lovely, looks so comfortable. Perfect for plane travel. I want one! 🙂
