The Model and Me: Anannasa

For a moment on the weekend I got a little excited about the possibility of cooler weather and switching to my trans-seasonal wardrobe.

Silly me.

Of course as soon as Cyclone Marcia moved on, the rain stopped and the sun came out, the humidity took an horrendous turn and I peeled off any layers I’d added in excitable haste.

(On a serious note, to all SY readers in the Yeppoon and Rockhampton areas in Queensland, I hope that power is restored to you soon and that the re-build happens with speed.)

The upside for me – and the continuing warm weather – is that there are a good couple months of kaftan wearing ahead of me before things cool down.

It’s no state secret that I love a kaftan – or six – but had not worn one in a block colour.

Enter stage left new Queensland label, Anannasa (which means pineapple in Hindi). Anything with a pineapple is ok with me!

The designer, Sher, has drawn on her past experience as a fashion buyer to create a range using silks, cotton silks, modals and cotton voile … fabrics ideal for an Australian summer.

The kaftan I’m featuring today is the Bella silk kaftan – in grey. It’s a design that also comes in black, orange, lime and pink.

This is a one-size, silk garment and very generous in size. Wear loose and lovely with flats for a more casual look.

Or, play with knotting the sides or bottom and wear with heels for a dressed-up occasion.

The knotting thing is something I’ve been experimenting with since coming across Camilla’s YouTube channel and seeing how many different looks can be created from one kaftan style.

For the outfit above, I’ve taken that inspiration and worked with the sides of this kaftan, knotting them together at the front.

The sleeves of this kaftan can also be let loose so you’re wearing just a tank-style strap (as seen on the model).

I love that this kaftan comes with its own short, nude-colour, cotton slip. No need to find one from your collection to work with the design.

The block colour is ideal for changing up the outfit each time you wear it. Just add different accessories and you’re good to step out.

Or stay in and play resorts!

  1. Hello,
Isn’t it looking like Nighties? Hehehe.
But, whatever it is, I believe more Wholesale Nighties Manufacturers should take a serious look at this inspiring clothes made for women and should do something to create more.

  2. Ooh I love the knotted version! I have this in pink and I love it. I also have one of their chevron kaftans. They were my favourite summer dresses!

  3. I have to admit I’ve never been that excited by a kaftan for my shape (or lack thereof), but this one is STUNNING! The knotting makes it look so different and I think I may pop my kaftan cherry with this one. Love it.

  4. In the recent heat (yes Sydney is cooler than Brisbane…but it is all relative…lol), kaftans have not left my back for weeks. LOVE them. Always feel elegant even if I am perspiring, and my hair is plastered to my head. Haven’t tried the knots, off to look at the tutorial now…

  5. I love how the one kaftan looks like a completely different garment when styled differently. It would be like getting two kaftans for the price of one!

  6. Whoa! I liked it on the model but you’ve styled it BEAUTIFULLY 🙂 Looking forward to seeing what else you do with it! Have a great day!
