Putting together an outfit in summer is a whole lot more challenging than in winter.
Winter is all about layering to keep warm. The very fact that you incorporate layers into your outfit means that you are adding interest through textures and shapes.
In summer, layering conjures up feelings of icky and stickiness.
Well, that’s very much the case where I live in Brisbane, Queensland.
Lately it’s felt that you could almost cut the humid air with a knife, so the idea of creating an outfit with lots of layers is not something that is met with welcome thoughts.
I have found, however, that with a little thought it is possible to add interest to a summer outfit – and even a single lightweight layer or interesting print or pattern can take your outfit from regular to wow.
To demonstrate, I’m showcasing some of the real women of #everydaystyle (if you’re knew here, each day I and many, many others post their daily outfit photo on Instagram and/or Facebook using this hashtag – each day is an inspiration so check it out! Also check out the #summerstyle feed for more women who are joining in with my friends @kimbalikes and @redcliffestyle).
White is not only all right. It’s white hot this summer. I love how @tamsinhowse has contrasted a feminine shift with boots.
You know how I feel about stripes?! Put simply, you just can’t go wrong wearing them – summer or winter. Love how @sophisticatedmumma and @smaggle have kept the rest of their outfits simple and let the stripes do the talking.
A colourful summer frock will take you many places during the summer months. I love that the dress is the statement. It’s one thing to pull on and that’s a win in my hot-weather book. @irismaystyle is definitely winning above.
Go out on a fashion limb and embrace a patterned maxi this summer. They’re are so many prints out there, it’s just a matter of playing and working out which ones make you feel great and, as Mr SY would say, don’t resemble a tablecloth. Let the frock do the talking and keep accessories to a minimum just as @chasingcait has done above.
A pop of metallics is almost mandatory. So cheerful and lifts a casual outfit as @beachstylemum has done above.
And a little more metallic? I think yes. Thanks for indulging us @middleagemumma.
Printed pants have become a summer staple. They are of lightweight fabric so cool to wear but they also add interest via their printed pattern. I want to be where @forty_up is right now.
Boyfriend-style jeans and a loose cotton shirt – you just can’t go wrong. Love this style from @howcaniwearthat.
Just like my obsession with stripes, it appears I have a hankering for a little denim or chambray in my wardrobe :). Danimezza shows how summer denim is done.
