Model and Me: Solito

Nikki ParkinsonFashion, The Model and Me 39 Comments

I’m still in outfit planning mode as to what I’ll wear Christmas Day (and any of the other Christmas-type gatherings leading up to the day).

I talked in this post how I’m not afraid to err on the side of naff-ness and embrace the colours of the season and I stand by that.

So much so, that the subject this week’s Model and Me post has become a top contender.

It’s got red, it’s got green, it’s got flamingos … what’s not to love?

This dress is from the Queensland-based label Solito.

I’ve featured Solito here since its inception and have followed each season to see how it’s evolved and grown.

The concept for the label originated from a desire by its designers (Olivia Mills and Mary Zacharia) to create everyday pieces that “present a cultural identity, quirk and personality”.

What sets Solito apart from the every day is the inclusion of unusual details and elements.

… back to the dress in question … here it is on the model …

You can see why I’ve fallen for this dress. It’s festive, it’s fun, it’s cool to wear and the arm detail sets it apart from other frocks in my wardrobe.

I’ve linked to its availability at Blue Bungalow but there are limited sizes left (I’m wearing L). It’s also available in a top at Blue Bungalow and both pieces are available at Solito stockists around Australia.

I love the cut of this tunic dress. It’s roomy but not voluminous. The length is just right for my 166cm – this is where I like my summer frocks to fall.

The print speaks for itself but it also lends itself to a big of metallic accessorising. And you know how I’m partial to that?!

This isn’t a dress that I feel I need to wear a slip underneath – it works on its own. Winning.

If you live in Brisbane, Solito has a pop-up store happening at 32 Vulture Street, West End until Christmas Eve.

So tell me, is this a dress that makes you smile? Are you sorted for what to wear Christmas Day?

PS. I’m going to be doing a round-up of everyone’s Christmas Day outfits on the blog Boxing Day. Make sure you share your outfit with the hashtag – #everydaystyle – to be included!

  1. As the year comes to an end, Nikki, I want to let you know that I really enjoy these segments of your blog. Not because you look as ordinary as I would in these clothes (you are too beautiful) but because you are more realistic and I get some ideas on accessorising. I live in a remote town and almost all purchases are online and I have to guess what things would look like on me. Thank you. Wishing you a very merry Christmas and continued success in 2015.

    1. Oh thanks so much Sonya … I actually include things on these pages with people like you – living remotely – in mind. 99% of things you see here are available online as I know that it’s just not easy when you live outside a capital city!

  2. Hi Nikki, you look so Christmassy! And yes, it does make me smile 🙂 On a sidenote, I just wanted to suggest something as possible future content for your blog, if I may. How about if you style real people and go shopping with them and find outfits for them to wear and show us the results? I’m sure that I’d love to see something like that too! What you think? Lol. Cheers babe, have a good one! 🙂 xx

    1. Hi Bridget, that’s a great idea and maybe something I could as part of a sponsored campaign. I don’t do personal styling sessions any more (haven’t done for three years) as my time is devoted to blog writing. PS. I’m a real person.

  3. That dress is stunning on you Nikki,i I am the Same I still haven’t decided but narrowed it down to 2 it really depends on the weather, either my Camilla or my new dress from Katies which is the same as Deuvanne from mamastylista was featured on your blog last week.Lovely model and me post Nikki

  4. So lovely Nikki. Flamingos- gorgeous! Not sure about Christmas Day. Will depend on the weather. If it’s cool like it has been the past couple of days, probably a maxi – love maxi dresses. IF it’s hot, we will be by the pool, so there will be a bit of swanning about in a kaftan. Xx

  5. That’s a very festive frock. And it suits you beautifully! I haven’t decided what to wear Christmas Day as yet – but I’m thinking I will just wear something from the wardrobe. Christmas seems to have snuck up on me, I’m very unprepared.

  6. it looks like queensland to me nikki! … love flamingos!

  7. Love the dress, you look beautiful. I will be wearing a dress, a maxi with plenty of room = we are going to my parents so there will be a lot of food on the plates. I bought it at Caboolture markets, have worn it twice and had compliments so I’m happy. And I can have a snooze in it if need be after lunch with no creases lol!

  8. Love the dress – it’s colourful and red so right up my alley!
Going to be in Munich for Christmas. So I wiill be out in my Leona Edmiston wool dress which doesn’t get much of a workout here even in the winter. Hopefully accessorising with snow 🙂

  9. Amazing, fun and vibrant dress which looks fabulous on you Nikki. As to what I will be wearing Christmas day I have no idea as yet. The girls and I will be away gla ping it up with my family. A dress I would say for sure. I have to pack at least two. V x
