I’m so excited to bring you a new Movie Star and Me post with Blue Illusion.

I’ve got a bit more accustomed to seeing the face of Blue Illusion – French actor Juliette Binoche – in the same clothes of me (you can catch up herebut I still wondered if I could pull this particular outfit off.

It’s fresh, it’s a key look for spring 2014 and it’s oh, so French in its simplicity and inspiration.

It’s a white pantsuit – a chic, soft and light jacket and pants combination that I’ve completely fallen head over heels for.

Let’s see it on Juliette, shall we?

and me

As you know the white jacket is one of the key looks I’ve been talking about and embracing all spring. This particular jacket is so gorgeously light and lovely that it will see you well into summer.

I love the three-quarter sleeves and relaxed cut. It’s chic and proves you don’t need structure to bring polish to an outfit.

The pants work in the same way. They’re relaxed (hello elasticated waist and pockets) but are streamlined and flattering on.

I love the versatility of these pieces separately but their power is amplified when worn together so today I’m sharing with you four different ways to wear this white pant suit.

I hope it inspires you to look at this combination as an occasion outfit alternative to the frock this season.

Look #1: monochrome

This is my favourite of the four looks. I’m a sucker for the classic, monochrome combination of black and white. It’s always smart. Keep it simple like Juliette has done above or, like me, add a statement necklace and a pop of leopard print in a heel. I’d wear this on a date night.

Look #2: all white

Well technically, I’m not wearing ALL white but let’s not split hairs over a nude heel and clutch, shall we? This too is a sophisticated combination. The cami is thin strapped allowing you to wear the jacket without feeling too warm underneath – even in the height of summer. The necklace also picks up on the white and adds to the occasion of the outfit. I’d wear this for an summer evening dinner out.

Look #3: zesty

One of spring-summer’s hottest colours is a zesty-almost-neon yellow. In this case of the drape top, it makes the white of the jacket and pant just pop. Here I’ve chosen a more casual styling option with flat sandals. This is an outfit I’d wear out to lunch with my girlfriends.

Look #4: nautical

You didn’t think I’d leave out my beloved stripes, did you? No Siree. By adding a striped tee and beige/gold sneakers, we’ve made the suit suitable for an even more casual occasion – but without taking anything away from its sophisticated styling. This is the kind of outfit I’d wear to brunch … or should I be asked to spend a day on a luxury yacht. A girl’s got to dream, yes?

The good news is these are white garments you can wash at home. They are dry-cleanable but they are also safe to hand or gentle machine wash inside out.

This is a big purchasing consideration – especially with a white garment – because if you’re anything like me, those white garments you covet so much will attract all manner of food or drink stuff on any outing.

I don’t however let my food-magnet tendencies stop me from embracing white. Far from it. The freshness of this combination wins over laundry considerations any day.

I’m wearing size L in both the jacket and pants. This sizing allows me to achieve the drape needed in both pieces to give the outfit its relaxed, French styling.

I have rolled the leg length (I’m 166cm tall and these pants will suit women up to 10cm taller than me) but I plan to have them altered to my height. Thought my taller style sisters would love to know that there is a decent length here to work with.

  1. Love the suit so much I bought it this week! Have added the striped tee, love the classy nautical look.
Those sneakers are pretty cool, are they a recent purchase?
Thx for the great tips 🙂

  2. I loved it – another great styling outfit Nikki. I am a sucker for white linen & my 20yr son JUST LOVES WHITE t-shirts too. I couldnt decide on which outfit i like the best. They all had a place & they all shone on a beautiful summers day. Have a happy weekend 🙂

  3. I like the ‘all white’ look the best but also love the casual nature of the ‘nautical’ look. There is something wonderful about taking a more formal garment and pairing it with relaxed items – very Parisienne! The suit looks fresh and beautiful and I really love a pant suit, but unfortunately not a flattering shade of white for me. I’ll be passing on this one.

  4. I love all of the looks, but the monochrome is my fave! Any chance the necklace is a current purchase? Or where it came from for a possibly match it buy?

  5. Do white shorts count?? Funnily enough, I always pause before putting mine on, thinking will I spill something today, but they always end up doing 2 wears on holiday! Love your monochrome look here Nikki xx

  6. Nikki I love ALL these looks on you! I love a white jacket and think this may be the one for me. I would have said no to the pants however you are rocking them, so I might just try them out… x

  7. Nikki, I love your first two looks – the monchrome and all white is also very elegant! – But if I had to choose personally, I would go for the day on the yacht – nautical wins! (And is also so very classy and importantly spells c-o-m-f-o-r-t ! ) Of course your zesty combination is so fresh and cheerful, too. I imagine this suit either worn together, or utilised as separates, paired with any number of tops or garments to be amazingly effective addition to many women’s wardrobes – so completely versatile, and limited really only by one’s imagination! x

  8. Love all of the looks. Looked at the pants and jacket over the weekend in the shop, but sadly no purchase. The problem for me is the damn hot flushes, the fabric felt so hot. But then everything does these days. Have always wanted a white pant suit.

  9. I bought a white Blue Illusion jacket online last night, Nikki. Just over $80 on spesh – I’ve had my eye on it for a while! You look amazing in all the combinations above – that citrusy yellow just pops, doesn’t it … and how clever to have those shoes to match

  10. oh Nikki you look yummy! Have you met Juliette Binoche? If not I think you should jag a meeting. I LOVE, the monochrome – love your leopard print shoes, and the zesty version the best, love those shoes too. I loved white pantsuits in the late 80s so it’s nice to see this easy casual one x

  11. I love this pantsuit on you Nikki and my favourite look is the black and white with those stunning leopard heels but I love all the ways you have styled it.Thank you Nikki for the outfit inspiratiions and your model and me posts Xx

  12. I love white. I love a pantsuit. There’s something about that monochromatic column – makes you feel tall and elegant. I had one way back in the 90s that I absolutely adored, but In post baby brain malfunction, put it in the wash with something blue – that was the end of that. You have shown, very cleverly how to style a pantsuit four ways – that talent, and your generosity to share your knowledge, is exactly why I love tuning I every day. Thanks Nikki. It is hard to pick, but like you, I think I like look no 1 best. Xx

  13. Love this look on you! I believe this is the same jacket you styled on stage when you came to Perth? You’ve certainly given me food for thought. I haven’t worn white pants since 1986.

I do own two white jackets but they are still hanging in my wardrobe rather neglected and new with tags. Possibly the next items that should make an appearance on my ‘should it stay or should it go now’ wardrobe makeover campaign.

      1. Thanks, mine are rather on the heavy side but I’ve moved them to the front of the wardrobe and determined to make a go of them soon. With my recent weight gain, I’ve been tending to head back to the black side of wardrobe town.

  14. looking ab/fab nikki!
what a great outfit to mix and match to your hearts content, for any occasion! versatility plus! almost a staple for a woman traveling! does it come in black too?;0 … that is light packing for any holiday! … nailed something here!
    lol … have a good day! m:)X
