Beauty favourites November 2014

We’re getting to the pointy end of the year and this will be the last of the monthly beauty favourites posts for 2014.

Next month I’ll bring you my favourites for the whole year.

It’s been a tough First World job, but hey, my skin, nails and hair have been up for it.

I hope that these posts give you an insight into what is new (or new to me) out there in beauty land. My aim is to cut through all the releases that are relevant to us and bring you my spin on them.

Not everything I feature will suit everyone but you just might find a product that could make a valuable addition to your beauty kit.

Here goes for November 2014.

Beauty favourites November 2014

1. Cetaphil Suntivity After Sun Repair ($11.50):  We’re big on sun-safe behaviours around here but sometimes (usually due to human error) we need to soothe sun-exposed skin. We’ve had success with 100% aloe vera gel and now this product from Cetaphil is in our kit. It’s cooling and nourishing and works by helping your skin’s own repair mechanism. It’s dermatologically tested, hypoallergenic and paraben free.

2. Lulu and Lipstick Brush Set ($89.95): I’ve been using makeup brushes as part of my makeup routine for more than 10 years ago. That first brush purchase was an investment – in better foundation application and in making product last longer. That first brush also cost about the same amount as this entire set of 12 from new beauty online retailer, Lulu and Lipstick. This is a great way to easily and cost-effectively get a kit of brushes together or to replace tired and old ones. The brush hairs are made from a quality synthetic fibre. I’ve usually stuck with natural brushes but have been happy with how these work. Plus, I just love that they come with their own case.

3. My Burberry Eau de Parfum (from $110): This gorgeous scent was gifted to guests at the opening of Burberry Brisbane last week. It’s Burberry’s latest fragrance and is inspired by the luxury brand’s iconic trench coat. Imagine the scent of a London garden after the rain with top notes of sweet pea and bergamot fuse; heart of geranium leaf, golden quince and freesia and a base of patchouli, damask and centifolia roses. Love the gaberdine bow on the bottle – it’s a nod to the fabric invented by Thomas Burberry more than 100 years ago. And if you buy via Burberry and you can have it monogrammed with your initials.

4. Orly Top2Bottom ($18.95): My attention to detail in the nails department is sadly lacking. Manicures need all the helping hands (pun intended) that they can get. This product from Orly is the key to your home manis lasting more than a day. I love that I just need one product to do the two jobs – as a base for the colour and as the topcoat for staying power.

5. Sodashi Jasmine and Rose Body Lotion ($78):  Sodashi is an Australian luxury chemical-free skincare range that’s found in top spas around the world – and I’m yet to meet a product that I haven’t loved. This latest offering – a gorgeously scented body lotion – is no exception. The formula includes macadamia, almond and hazelnut oil as well as shea butter. Jasmine, Damask Rose, Ylang Ylang, Sandalwood and Rosewood combine to create the most lush scent AND boost the skin’s natural resilience. This would make a beautiful gift. (Not tested on animals, free from all synthetic ingredients including parabens, petrochemicals, GMOs, sulphates and synthetic preservatives and dyes.)

It’s over to you now … tell me about any beauty products you’ve tried and used this month that we should all know about.

  1. I just discovered Image Skincare’s Balancing Lip Enhancement Complex. It is like a lip balm in application, but it soothes dry lips, enhances appearance, diminishes fine lines and helps after lip injections. Paraben free too, and with a lovely delicious smell! I tried it after having an awful allergic reaction to medication that left my lips swollen and peeling, and this has helped to soothe them. I swear my lips are plumper too! I picked it up for $38 at my beauty therapist. Lauren from SAHM I am.

  2. I’m loving the Neutrogena Hydro Boost, I think I may have read about it on your website? recently and went straight out and bought it. My skin looks and feels great and I have received many comments on how good I look from friends and family who have no idea I’m using a new product! Highly recommend it.

  3. Oh I like the sound of that Orly Top2Bottom, very clever. I was talking to some friends the other day about getting shellac nails. I love the look of them but I don’t think I could regularly sit down for 1-1.5 hours to have them done so I am sticking to home manis for the time being where I can read my ipad while waiting for my nails to dry. My little find for the month … I recently bought some of the Rimmel lip crayons in the Priceline sale and the red is the best red I have ever tried!

      1. Thanks Nikki. I don’t know why it takes so long where my friends go?? Maybe they talk too much ;-). Good point about the nail weakening too!

  4. fab buys Nikki – I must check out the Burberry fragrance. I am liking True solutions tinted moisturiser with SPF 30 protection. Its a great 3-in-one base to start the day!

  5. thankyou for this round up nikki! … what a lovely gift from burberry! … love their classic style! … off to the shops to see what I can find today! … you have a good one too! … lol m:)X

  6. Lovely I’m always up to try a new fragrance Nikki I am a self confessed fragrance whore I wear perfume everyday so I will have a smell of the Burberry one.
I have bought the maybelline better skin foundation but haven’t tried it yet and I also bought on your recommendation the Nivea pearly shine lip gloss and love it thank you Nikki xx

  7. Thanks so much for these tips! I’m actually looking for a new perfume so I think the Burberry perfume will be perfect! 🙂 xx

  8. I’ve just discovered Loreal CC cream … its truly amazing. Have previously used and loved BB creams, but bought this one on sale at the local supermarket. Works as moisturiser and foundation, glides on effortlessly, gorgeous finish. Can’t recommend it highly enough.
