The Model and Me: wYse lifestyle

Did you get caught in the rain event at the weekend?

Aside from the fact that I find it fascinating that we are now calling a day of precipitation an EVENT, I did make the most of the last blast of winter and pulled on the boots, faux fur collar and coat for a farewell party.

Now, if you live in the southern parts of Australia, I hear you. Spring may tick over on the calendar in a fortnight but you are a long way off things heating up a bit.

Where I live it’s a little different. The winter-to-spring switch will be flicked right on schedule.

I’ve re-stocked the razor blade refills, booked my first spray tan of the season and scheduled in time to do a post-winter edit of my wardrobe in readiness for the long spring-summer ahead.

My weekly Model and Me posts will also reflect the change of fashion seasons, with the aim of showcasing style ideas to help you plan your wardrobe for the upcoming season.

I’ve featured and long-supported the Queensland-based label wYse lifestyle on Styling You.

It’s a label that designs and produces clothes that make easy lifestyle pieces in a the softest of modal fabrics (made from beech wood chips). They are pieces that wash and wear like new (I have a pair of black leggings that I bought four or five years ago – and they show no signs of needing replacement). Like my Metalicus and Mela Purdie pieces, they form the basis of my wardrobe basics and the key pieces I look to when packing for a trip away.

Today’s outfit features a skirt and a top that could be worn as part of a layered outfit now – together or separately – and then as a simple day outfit as the weather warms up.

The model

wyse lifestyle cruise top and pencil skirt SS14-15

wyse lifestyle cruise top $165 and pencil skirt $110

and me

wYse lifestyle top and skirt | Ruby Olive necklace | Samantha Wills ring | freya & sabine sandals

wYse lifestyle top and skirt* (I’m wearing size L in both) | Ruby Olive necklace* | Samantha Wills ring | freya & sabine sandals $165*

These are the kind of separates that will work for my spring wardrobe this season and beyond.

The skirt is a great spring alternative to black but works just as well as a neutral. I’d also wear it with a crisp, white shirt. Right now, it would work layered with leggings, a knit and boots.

The top drapes beautifully and covers my upper arms but because it’s a breathable fabric this is something I can wear even when the temperature soars. I’d also wear the top with a pair of jeans now and shorts later in the season.

Let’s talk about those sandals. The ’90s girl in me is a little excited about the return of the block heel. I’m not one who’s afraid to re-visit a trend, especially when it’s one that involves a heel height that is wearable. Freya & Sabine is the sister shoe label of another  Styling You favourite, Zoe Kratzmann footwear.

wYse lifestyle is sold at boutiques throughout Australia and online at Hard to Find. For Freya & Sabine stockists near you, contact the label via its Facebook page.

What’s on your wardrobe radar for spring/summer? When does it warm up where you live?

  1. I would usually skim past this outfit because the skirt is so short but I notice it’s much longer on you. I’d wear the length it is on you. Is the skirt meant to be above or below the knee.

  2. Loving the outfit – my cup of tea! Necklace looks great with it. Yep, bring on the block heels! Well, being new to Melbourne, I’m not quite sure when the weather will change to Spring!!! Nor what I’ll wear!!! I’m just enjoying the climatic change from the GC!

  3. Love these wardrobe basics – perfect for dressing up and down. I am sure you’ll get loads of wear out of these this Spring and beyond. Love you in orange too! x

  4. Love the idea of draping not clinging fabric. I have to say I don’t the cool (ie Qld cold) weather providing it is sunny and the days are a bit longer with sunshine. I really need to start thinking about spring …

  5. Love the fabric wYse use. It’s comfortable and really does hold up well (i.e. minimal piling etc) and has a nice weight for draping rather than clinging. I love the top – and skirt , although I already have several similarly styled ones from metalicus. I’m sadly not an orange girl (makes me look pasty). I’ll have to check out and see if they have other colours.Looks like a style that will get lots of wear. Fingers crossed Flynn is on the road to recovery very soon. Feeling sick is the pits!

  6. I hear you on the rain front it is precipitating very heavily here ATM,I would call it torrential!that means no straightening of my hair as it just a waste of my time,so curly hair week.
I love the stripes in this top especially as it is orange:)and yes indeed I’m a fan of the block heel I can actually walk in shoes like that Nikki.I’m not sure when it will warm up here maybe October or maybe not we may have a few faux spring or summer days and some cold ones thrown in,I am a bit over winter though we have had such thick frosts and the aircon has been on a LOT this winter so not looking forward to the electricy bill!
I have started spring shopping I bought a black jumpsuit from Katie’s similar to the one you showed last Monday and it is so lovely on,so if any SY readers wants one they are $40 and they have patterned ones as well and they had a promotion as well buy 2 things get 50% off the second so I bought a pair of soft distressed skinny jeans as well.
Lovely model and me post Nikki I’m a tad jealous of your weather and I’m going to check out those shoes as well Xx

  7. Love this tantalizing look at spring- makes me feel like it’s not too far away, although in Sydney this morning where it has been pouring all night it doesn’t quite feel like it.
That top looks like a nice weight to skim over the lumps and bumps; winner!

  8. hi nikki! I was thinking stripes! then my daughter phoned and asked if we wanted to visit … didn’t have to think hard about that one! … hello sunshine coast! … sooon! <3 it! … there will be stripes! … lol m:)X
