This is like a Christmas and birthday countdown rolled into one.

The anticipation and excitement at the moment is mixed with a whole lot of crazy time pressures but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Unlock Your Style will be available at Big W, Kmart, Target and all good book retailers from next Tuesday.

The cover

Yesterday I went to meet with one of my favourite designers (pictured here below) – if you’re a regular here you would have heard me talk about and recommend Sacha Drake on many an occasion.

Fashion designer Sacha Drake and Styling You's Nikki Parkinson

I first met Sacha almost a decade ago in my former job as a journalist. Meeting her was like a breath of fresh air. Here was a fashion designer who understood that not all women are of model proportions and that it is possible to design clothes that make us mere mortals feel fabulous.

I’ve been lucky enough to wear many a Sacha Drake design over that decade. Each and every piece has fit and flattered my size 14-16 shape and made me feel like a million dollars.

When it came to selecting key occasion pieces for Unlock Your Style, I turned once again to Sacha.

One of her “multiple-wear” frocks, the Catelyn, made it to the front cover. Jo, Norlin, Dee and I are all wearing the same dress, just each in a different way.

This dress is coming back for spring (and is available for pre-order here– it’s the kind of dress that can take you from a poolside bar with flats when worn draped and open through to a cocktail event with some “wrapping” the addition of bling. Underneath is a high-waisted skirt and the dress sits over this with a limitless number of options for styling.

The fabric has to be worn to be believed. It’s the softest of jerseys – even softer than last year’s version.

Catelyn is the kind of dress that would be your wardrobe friend for many a year to come.

On the cover, I wore her with my favourite Salita Matthews necklace. The necklace was a treat to myself last year for completing the writing of the book. I’m so excited that my girlfriend’s exquisite work also gets to feature on the cover.

So, who’s going to help me count down the next week? I may need some calming down!
