The Model and Me: Motto

There are times when I put on a garment and cannot believe just how right the designer gets it in regards to creating something that can be so comfortable AND so flattering.

This is THE winning combination in my style book.

Earlier this year, Australian label Motto introduced me to its Lauren cropped pant.

There it was – my winning combination in a soft pant – pants that have since become wardrobe favourites. I even bought the leopard print in the same style.

So, imagine my excitement to see that very pant is back.

In a long version.

Motto jersey long Lauren pant $89.95 (I’m wearing size 16) | Motto jersey cut-out bell top $79.95 (I’m wearing size 14) | Zoe Kratzmann wedges | Red Phoenix Emporium necklace | Bohemian Traders bracelet

I love a cropped pant for casual wear with flat sandals or sneakers but a full-length pant has a lot more wardrobe options (so long as the weather is playing nicely with us).

You can still wear them as the base for a casual outfit with sneakers. Or you can wear them with ankle boots, heels or wedges as I’ve done here. It’s this dress-up-ability that makes them versatile wardrobe additions.

You can wear them with a knit – or with a blazer – or a simple jersey top as Motto has styled here.

It doesn’t matter which way you choose to wear them, the bonus will still be the same. They are unbelievably comfortable.

They also have such a beautiful drape in the pattern – this works to elongate your legs. That, my friends, is why I consider them magic pants.

Do you love a soft pant?

PS. Today is my youngest’s birthday. He’s a big nine-year-old. I do not know where those years have gone. He had his party yesterday with some friends and his cousins and I whipped up this requested Minecraft cake. The square muffin tins I found at Coles, the chocolate cake I made using a recipe that included golden syrup (amazingly moist and light) and I have a hasty order to Sugar and Spice Cupcakes to thank for making me look good in the eyes of the Minecraft-obsessed boys.

Tonight we’re heading back to the Night Noodle Markets as a special birthday dinner treat (we went on Friday to the official opening as guests of event sponsors Cathay Pacific and just love them despite the icy and windy conditions). The markets are part of Brisbane’s Good Food Month and are on until July 27. Did someone say pork buns? And dumplings? Yes please.

  1. I’m so loving your blog! Yours is the only one I’ve subscribed to and so far, I’ve bought two items you’ve featured including these pants (only found you three weeks ago!) I find you so accessible and real, I’ve even preordered your book! Please keep up the real you, you’re fabulous!

  2. Nikki is the crush effect in these pants “compulsory”? If I didn’t want that look, but rather a smooth jersey look, does the crush wash/iron/steam out? They look fantastic but if I wanted to get away with them at work I think the crush effect might look a little too casual. Happy birthday to Mr SY – I have a little just-turned-9yo boy myself who is minecraft-obsessed. Everything has “TNT” written on it in our house now :). Even our 3 yo girl is getting in on it – although she calls it “T and T” which drives Mr 9 completely nuts.

  3. The pants look lovely and comfy; I like the full length ones also; they are a lot more versatile. What I really want to say is Wow I love the Minecraft cake – I have 8 and 9 year old boys and they are obsessed with it! One birthday coming up in September so will attempt this myself. Thanks Nikki you are full of fun and useful information! (Happy Birthday to your Master 9).

  4. I bought these after reading about the crop ones. They are the most comfortable pants. Wore them casual on the weekend. Dressed them up for work. They stay up,they dont roll at the waist.

  5. So do you think even short, pear shaped people can wear these pants? I find it hard to wear loose and baggy most of the time as it tends to swamp me!

        1. Received my pair this last week, have worn them to work and will wear them out tonight, love them! Thanks for showing us that we don’t have to be 5’11 to be able to wear these clothes 🙂

  6. my feet are chilly just looking at those sandals
    otherwise luff the outfit.
I am doing a pair of ponte leggings today – Witchery. Love the soft pant!

    1. I’m in ponte today too! I tell you shooting spring fashion in winter is much easier than doing winter fashion in our autumn which is still summer … crazy fashion world! I had to put the aircon on just to get dressed for those shots – then quickly change back into summer clothes.

  7. That’s a big yes from me that the soft pant will be continuing next season, love them!I love everything about this outfit on you Nikki it’s gorgeous.
The birthday cakes look awesome and I’m glad your little man will have a fab Birthday such a great age Xx

  8. I love love love my motto pants (I have 2 of the cropped pairs) now I can not wait for my long pants to arrive in the post….. LOVE MOTTO, they have got it right 🙂

  9. Those pants look fabulous on you Nikki. Very flattering indeed. Happy birthday to your little guy too. My eldest just turned 8 and I can’t believe it, let alone my youngest. Enjoy the celebrations today. x

  10. This outfit looks great Nikki, and yes, given the right cut I do love a soft pant. But I find it hard to a pair that fits well. Happy birthday to Master SY for today – I hope he has an *epic* day. Well done on the cupcakes, I might steal your ideas for my boy’s birthday in a couple of months 🙂
