Things I’m loving

I do not get fluey sick very often.

Yes, I may have my share of ongoing health issues but when it comes to fending off any lurgy going round I’m pretty good at doing so – thanks in part to my army of preventative cold and flu busters.

But I let my guard down, didn’t I?

I had my first real break in a very long time. Five days counts as a real break, doesn’t it? Especially when I didn’t even take my laptop!

Lo and behold a flu-type virus decided to take advantage of my relaxed state and make me its Easter target.

There has been little time for wallowing though. This is woman-flu, not man-flu after all.

No, I received a call while taken to my sick bed on Monday. It was from a producer at Channel 9’s Mornings show asking if I was available to come on the show yesterday morning.

Sure, I coughed and spluttered, always grateful for such opportunities – and professional makeup artists who know how to make you look your best when you don’t feel it.

So, off I trotted to Brisbane’s Channel 9 studios and gave my two cents worth on finding your style at any age.

And then because the cold and flu drugs were still in effect, I soldiered on and met up with the very talented illustrator Kerrie Hess.

Kerrie and I met on the internets, as you do in the 2000s, and we’d been trying to catch up IRL since I moved to Brisbane – where she’s now returned after years in Paris.

I’m a huge fan of Kerrie’s work – even have two of her designs on Brown Trading Co cushions – but her latest project may be my favourite to date.

Kerrie has created a limited edition print in time for Mother’s Day with 20% of the sale proceeds going to the Pink Hope Foundation.

The print is called Macarons en Rose and I can’t wait to get it framed and up in my Lady Room.

Apparently the weather at Easter where we were on the NSW Central Coast was the best – and the driest – for eight years.

But I don’t need stats to tell me … it was a cracker!

I embraced sunshine, cooler temperatures, stunning surrounds, kids on the go from morning till night, soft pants, good food, a vino or three hundred, afternoon G&Ts, a long walk/climb to earn said G&Ts and hilarious conversation with good friends.

… and new cushions (the navy one came home with me, the yellow I gifted to our hosts, the Woogs. Both are from this fabulous interiors store in Umina.).

It was the perfect end to a two-week school holiday where I managed to survive the mad juggle that is child-wrangling/entertaining and working. Just.

We were mad for books.

And seeing the best kids’ movie in a long time.

And sushi lunches.

And museum visits (the Deep Oceans exhibit runs until October 6, 2014 and is well worth a look).

Speaking of home … I’m so loving watching how the change in season changes the light flow in our space.

Our new verandah herb garden is pretty happy about it too.
