Everyday style outfits of the week

Nikki ParkinsonEveryday Style, Fashion 39 Comments

The crux of the post I wrote yesterday about the underweight models debate was some pretty strong beliefs that I hold. Beliefs that I hope you *feel* here when visiting and reading.

1. I believe every woman is real. This notion that real women are a certain size does not honour all women. And honour all women is what I aim to do.

2. I believe and promote the diversity of women. What a boring old world it would be if we all looked the same, were the same age and God forbid, dressed the same. Viva la difference.

3. I aim to help women find or enhance their confidence through their their own style and in alighnment with their personality and lifestyle.

When I go through the #everydaystyle feed each week to write this post, it fills my heart to see this as an opportunity to celebrate each of these three points.

I thank all the women who photograph their everyday style outfits and post them when they can.

You are helping to make a difference to so many other women and I hope that your confidence as soaring as a result too.

My blogging mate Faux Fuchsia (see this week’s blog roll below) is so right – sequins are key. I have a “thing” for sequins at the best of times but whack them on a tee and I’ll make them a firm wardrobe friend for their (un)natural life.

I’m always on high alert when sass and bide bring out a new collection as they just know how to work sequins into an everyday wearable design that gets noticed. This tee was from last May – I bought it to wear on my birthday last year.

Frocking up can be as easy as throwing on a dress and adding an accessory or two. Exhibits A-G below.

If you’re yet to find your fave frock or frock shape, please don’t give up. It’s really worth the effort to find styles that work for you as once you have those styles locked in your wardrobe, getting dressed couldn’t be easier.

Blog roll

Faux Fuchsia: FF is a Brisbane-based blogger who makes me laugh every single post. Her personal style is glamorous and she never leaves home with chipped nails or without a sequin or sparkle in at least two places on her outfit. She excels in sourcing “designer clobber on the cheap” and she “never knowingly under-cushions”. Both qualities I fully endorse.

Trainee Mama: Peta is based on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast – my old home town. She’s a new mum and she may claim not to be a fashion or beauty blogger but I do love her fun sense of style. A style she’s had to re-work as she adapts to being a mum.

Don’t feel you have to post every day. Post when you can. For consideration in my outfit of the week round up, I look first for clear, in-focus photos without text or borders on them. These work in best with the montage layout.

  1. Gorgeous everyday style outfits Nikki I love them all ,being a dress girl it makes me happy that others love dresses too.
    Happy weekend Nikki x

  2. Oh YAY, my gorgeous and totally stylish BFF is on your blog roll! I love the way Peta of Trainee Mama puts together wearable QLD-friendly yet super-fashionable outfits, and she always manages to find the best bargains!
I’m so glad more fashionable folk are getting to see her style (and getting to see Baby Ned too, of course)!

  3. Nice selection of everyday styles this week and I absolutely loved your sequinned tee. It’s pretty hard to do sequins in the day for me but your top shows it can be done. FF is my guilty reading pleasure, she’s such a laugh. Loving her take on the Royal Tour too.

  4. Great looking everydaystyle – I especially love funkyolgirl – her sandals and jewellery are put together so well!

  5. love your outfit, your attitude and way of dealing with people nikki.
you are a great fascilitator … can’t find my dictionary … my spelling is appauling lately … and I forget my passwords! oh dear … please excuse!
not frock/dress person myself but when it’s warm I do swan around the house late afternoonish just to get that feeling of femininity … often a skirt though … gratitude! … have a good one! lol m:)X

  6. I got in early and bought a pair of the CR pants in Black last weekend! So comfy. I’d love your advice about wearing them for winter, your tee/sandals combos are great but here in Canberra I will need layers and warm shoes/boots. Thanks!

    1. Oh great work! I’m sad to say that this is not really a pant style that will work for the depths of winter. I’ll wear mine with loafers and ballet flats but that would not be warm enough for a Canberra winter. Because of the way they finish at the ankle they’ll kind of look funny with ankle boots. On top I’ll layer a knit and a jacket so that will work but it’s the shoes that will be a problem.

      1. That was my fear. I’ll be able to wear with flats for casual Friday at work and shopping etc, but I’ll be sticking to my nydj jeans and boots for Soccor sidelines! Thanks for taking the time to reply.

  7. Another great round up Nikki, thank you. It’s great to see everyone’s personal style and the different ways people interpret current trends. I am a big believer in the frock too – the world’s most flattering garment and these lovely ladies are testament to this!

  8. As a self-confessed frock lover today’s everydaystyle round up totally makes me happy. Fabulously individual and totally inspiring.
Right, off to check out Faux Fuchsia…I’m already head-over-heels in love with Peta’s (TraineeMama) gorgeous baby boy Ned – he is such a cutie!

  9. I love seeing the Friday Everyday Style posts. Personally, I have just worn my uniform to work each day this week, not a single stylish moment. But, I did order a pair of those CR pants, and another Metallicus tee. So I was stylish on the inside haha! Yay for Friday! Have a great weekend, Kathryn
