Everyday style outfits of the week

Nikki ParkinsonEveryday Style, Fashion 29 Comments

Thank-you to everyone who wore red last Friday in support of the Morcombe family.

I had goosebumps each time I saw another photo of someone supporting the #redfordaniel hashtag.

Quite a few people asked me if I thought that the Morcombe family felt the support.

I think they have.

Nothing will ever take away the pain they have experienced and will continue to experience but their work will live on.

Please donate if you can.

Now to this week’s round up.

Following on from last week’s everyday style theme detection, my style investigation uncovered a theme that had me turning an unattractive shade of green.

Here in south-east Queensland we have had a rewind on the weather charts.

It’s felt like January. Mid-summer humidity at a bazillion percent.

But in the #everdaystyle feed, I’ve seen people donning all manner of jackets, caps and kimonos. Wardrobe pieces that wink at me from my wardrobe but just can’t be worn at the moment on account of non-autumn weather.

Check out some of these examples below and you’ll understand my envy.

See, as soon as you add a piece like these to any outfit, then you have taken the whole outfit up a notch.

You just look more put together – that’s what layering does. And I can’t wait to get stuck into wearing some if the weather gods decide to finally get on my side.

My #redfordaniel outfit got the thumbs up from you.

This dress was picked up for $50 at the recent Leona Edmiston Brisbane warehouse sale. Love this shape that Leona does. I have a black and white one in the same shape.

The ballet flats work with this frock as it’s a bit shorter. Normally I’d reserve my ballets for wearing with skinny jeans or leggings.

Yes, I had a whole lot of jacket-wearing envy going on …

Blog roll

Sophisticated Mumma: The gorgeous SM has been joining in #everydaystyle for a while now and I was super excited to discover that she’d now started a blog. She’s a beauty therapist by profession and like me, likes to leave the house with a face on. Like me she also likes a G&T in a jar. Spurted my own G&T out when I read that she likened them to adult versions of a sippy cup.

Sister in Style: Gold Coast-based Fiona is a teachers aide by day and an accessories maker by night. I love that besides selling her work on her site, she blogs to give inspiration on how to wear her designs. All are handcrafted and affordable.

Want to join in? Simply upload a photo of yourself showing your everyday style to Instagram or Facebook, use the #everydaystyle and tag @stylingyou so I can find you. Don’t feel you have to post every day. Post when you can. For consideration in my outfit of the week round up, I look first for clear, in-focus photos without text or borders on them. These work in best with the montage layout.

PS. My blogging friend Rachel from Redcliffe Style has started a new fashion bloggie link-up: Forty Plus Style. If that’s you and you’re looking for more inspiration, check it out here and every Thursday.

So tell me, do you have a favourite outfit you wore some time during the last week? Why did you love it so?

  1. I’m with you in the jacket envy dept atm Nikki. I have bought a couple of new ones and even trying them on made me feel a little ill. The humidity is just madness in SEQ atm. Big thanks for the mention of Sister in Style. Having website issues atm, grrr, but ever creating! Highlight of my day…week…month 😀

  2. Wow, thanks so much for including me in this week’s roundup alongside so many other beautifully dressed women! That blazer is a bit of a magic item for me – whenever I put it on, I feel fierce and fabulous. That outfit is definitely the best outfit I’ve worn this past week, which is awesome because I’ve never worn those items all together before!

  3. Love the Leona Edmiston dress on you, especially in red. I also love the ballet pumps too – I can never get them to sit on my heels, they always flip off and give me blisters. Can you recommend any?

    1. It’s tricky with closed in heels as one foot is usually bigger than the other. So it’s not so much the brand but employing some heel guards to make them fit snuggly without slipping and causing blisters. The brand Frankie4 which I feature here quite a bit also has different sized inserts for their shoes so you can work to find the best possible fit.

  4. I am a tad jealous too, maybe at 7am I could don a kimono jacket but not during the day ,it has been too hot here too!
I love all theses outfits,a jacket does add polish to even a jeans and tee, gorgeous #everydaystyle pics!have a great weekend Nikki 🙂

  5. love lucietrinco’s style. I must buy some new belts and neutral flats. Love a blazer. Looking fabulous. Everyone else looks gorgeous too.

  6. hi nikki, well quite frankly I’ve been a bit lazy since returning from holidays but I purchased two new slinky drapey types of tops in black … minimalism is my style … and a pair of black and white geometric patterned pants … loving trying them on and wafting around in comfort … if it’s not itchy and scratchy and I’m comfortable then I’m a happy chappy! … I love shirts and jackets I too am short waisted … a pain in th b..! but over the years I’ve learnt to camouflage the not so good and accentuate the good positives … thankyou lol m:)X

  7. Oh look at all those lovely everyday stylers in their jackets and blazers. Still way too hot and humid here in Brissie to trot these out (….le sigh!). I love Soniastyling’s look but don’t know that I could pull it off. I think lucietrinco’s outfit is closer to my thing. I am intrigued by all those lovely soft kimono jackets but I wonder how I’d go with the boho clothing minus the usual accompanying long flowing locks and trinket style accessories. Question: Can you do boho pieces without the whole boho look?

  8. Gosh I love lucietrinco’s outfit. I’m happy to see that navy is around again this season. I haven’t really made much effort this week due to long hours at work. So throwing on a frock early in the morning (showing up at work a couple of days without my watch and earrings!) and coming home late and crawling into PJs. Going to a 40th birthday party tomorrow night, looking forward to dressing up for that.

  9. Hi Nikki, that leopard jacket is gorgeous! Sadly, I have been boring all week in my uniform for work. After becoming a reader of your blog I have been making more effort, after being in a menopausal rut lol. I’ve changed my hair to a much shorter concave bob, I have quite a bit of kinky curl so have been making the effort to use my GHD. Bought a few new basics for winter, and some new skincare and makeup. My daughter told me yesterday that I’ve been looking younger lately – so happy days all round! Thankyou and have a lovely weekend, Kathryn x
