Ahh, school holidays … you love them at the start, not so much at the end. Happily we’re in the start phase and all is going swimmingly here.

Thought we’d share today some fresh newsy bites.

We have everything from an Ovarian Cancer awareness campaign to some exciting savings on fabulous beauty products and the raunchy new 50 Shades lingerie you can take home (wink wink)!

Make cancer a word not a sentence

Megan Gale has joined forces with L’Oreal Paris as their public face in the fight against ovarian cancer.  In Australia, one woman dies every 10 hours of this devastating disease, so together Megan and L’Oreal are working to raise awareness and funding for an early detection test. Host a high tea to raise some much-needed money whilst catching up with your girlfriends at the same time. Every cent counts. You can find out more, or make a donation to the Ovarian Cancer Research foundation by clicking here.

Molton Brown and shu uemura drop their prices

House on the Prairie

Who says sleepwear needs to be boring?  Certainly not House on the Prairie with their quirky, playful designs that mix art and design to re-define the idea of what we wear to bed. Creative director Emily McIntyre says: “we are dedicated to challenging the banality of fashion, harnessing art and design as well as constructing concepts that are new and undiscovered”. By collaborating with local artists, the label delivers original prints with pieces that are constructed with organic fabric. Who doesn’t want to add something that’s bright and playful to the bedroom?

50 Shades at Target

Still on the topic of bedroom attire, Target has just announced a new range of lingerie entitled the 50 Shades of Grey collection. Following the hotly anticipated announcement of the movie leads last week, this range is styled on pieces that Christian Grey gives to Anastasia. You’ll find the full collection online and instore from September 26.  Ranging in price from $15 to $49 we can all add a little 50 Shades to our wardrobe.

Australian Indigenous Fashion Week

It’s always wonderful to see new designers and their pieces being showcased. There was certainly a buzz in the room when Mia Brennan and Grace Lillian Lee were selected as two of 16 Australian Indigenous designers to participate in the inaugural AIFW Design Training and Mentoring Program. The two were incredibly excited to share their cultural stories via their contemporary designs to the fashion industry. We’re sure these two are ones to watch in the future as AIFW is set to become an annual fixture on the local fashion calendar.

  1. Love the poncho (too good for bed) but not sure I’ll be going down the 50 Shades lingerie route. All my mismatched cotton undies would get jealous!
My news is that I have a birthday coming up next Monday and have decided to spend the day with a girlfriend in the city (Sydney). We’re looking for somewhere where we can sit together getting a pedicure whilst having a glass of bubbles – a licensed spa if you will! (which can then go into Nikki’s directory!) Any suggestions for that or any other fun things to do would be welcome 🙂

  2. Megan Gale is pretty awesome at lending her support to some pretty worthwhile causes isn’t she? My very exciting news is I am heading back to the US for a little holiday (only 6 nights) in November! We will be staying in Hollywood as well as staying at Disneyland for 2 nights so all my energy is spent on working out the best places to go. If anyone has any good recommendations I would love to hear them.

    1. Woohoo Kelly … do you remember this post from last year? … with regards to Hollywood, we were only there a couple of nights and booked one of the tours. Didn’t really enjoy the tour (hence no blog post on it) … I think I would have preferred to have used our time to go out to Santa Monica. Loved shopping at The Grove (it’s the mall where Modern Family is filmed when they go shopping) and also visiting the Farmers markets next door. Rodeo Drive is fun for a Pretty Woman moment. The most frustrating thing is that because everyone drives everywhere, the cab and bus system is not so good – as opposed to public transport in NYC. x

  3. Love the House on The Prairie Range of sleepwear I follow them on IG.Could be worn as day wear as well.I like all your Newsy Bits Nikki I really hope they do find an early detection test for Ovarian Cancer soon.
Nancy Bird is having a sale on some of their items I bought myself an early Birthday Present, you might want to take a look the prices are great! Thanks for sharing your News Nikki.
