Lazy-girl beauty: the new in-shower body moisturiser

I’m feeling a bit smug right now.

Usually at this time of year – the middle of winter – I’ve all but forgotten that my legs exist (in the beauty department, not in the getting-myself-around department).

You already know that I’m all kinds of lazy when it comes to my beauty routine. It’s not that I don’t have one, it’s just if there are corners to be cut, then you can bet that I’m there cutting them.

In winter time that usually means not paying any attention to my legs. I may pass a razor over them every month week or so. And because I’m immediately throwing on a pair of jeans or leggings, I don’t bother with body moisturiser either.

This lazy-girl winter routine is all well and good when it’s winter but spring hits pretty fast where I live. Usually bang on September 1 and that is when I get one almighty shock over the state of my il-treated pins and go into emergency leg resuscitation mode.

Not this spring, Stylers.

And that is the reason for my smugness.

See, I’ve found a beauty corner to cut that results in non-scaly legs all year round and I’m more than happy to share it with you: NIVEA In-Shower Body Lotion ($7.99, 400ml).

Yes, you read correctly. An in-shower body moisturiser you apply while you’re – as the name clearly suggests –  in the shower. And a body lotion that won’t bust your beauty budget, either. Winning.

These two bottles below (very dry skin and normal-to-dry skin) have been on high rotation in my shower since the end of May when I flew to Sydney for the launch, tried them out and got to take some home.  I had to keep a lid on this gem of a lazy-girl find until now but the products are now available in Priceline and Woolworths – and Coles by mid-August, so I wanted to give you the heads up.

Do not confuse this product with a moisturising body wash. You still need to cleanse first – a bit like you do when you wash your hair. First comes the shampoo, then the conditioner. In this case, first comes the shower gel or soap, then comes the in-shower body lotion.

So yes, there’s an extra step in the process but it’s different because I’M IN THE SHOWER. Some days that shower is the only five minutes I get to myself. It’s as close as I get to a sacred space in my home, where I get to think uninterrupted … and now I get to do that and quickly and easily give my skin the love it deserves.

Yes, I have all manner of beauty body lotions at my disposal but when I get out of the shower, my head is already on fast-forward to the school run or what I have to do for work today and I found, more than not, I’d skip the body lotion thing completely.

Except if were a special occasion and my legs were on show – which is just silly. We shouldn’t wait for a special occasion for anything, let alone lovely, soft, hydrated skin.

So, here’s a little look-see at my new, improved moisturised skin routine:

5 steps to moisturising your skin while having a shower Nivea In-Shower Body Lotion

It’s the unique formula of the NIVEA In-Shower Body Lotion that enables it to work in the shower. It actually activates as you rinse it off.

When you step out of the shower and have dried yourself you can feel your skin is moisturised but it’s absorbed, totally non-greasy and perfectly ok for dressing straight away and getting out the door.

I feel like I’ve cheated a bit and got in some pampering time without any downtime.

I’ve been switching between the two available formulas as in winter I don’t think your skin can receive too much in the hydration department!

The normal to dry (white bottle) contains sea minerals to leave the skin soft and hydrated; the very dry skin (blue bottle) draws on almond oil to provide long-lasting hydration.

I don’t have overly sensitive skin but I can react to some skincare products. Not a problem here and I’ve been using for three months.

Mr SY has even got in the act, giving the product the thumbs up. His skin suffers more in winter than mine so that’s a big call from him.

We’ve already gone through the first trial bottles I was given in May and have re-stocked. NIVEA In-Shower Body Lotion will long be a regular buy for us, which is the ultimate test around here.

  1. I’M MUM, WIFE, HOUSEKEEPER, COOK, CHAUFFEUR,
    EDUCATOR, SPORTS COACH, PARAMEDIC, FINANCIER;
PSYCHOLOGIST, COMPUTER WHIZ AND GARDENER TOO,
NEED NIVEA SHOWER-LOTION? MOST CERTAINLY DO!!

    “VERY DRY SKIN” PLEASE!!

  2. I think I’d go for the lotion the way I like my wine, very dry. I never seem to have enough time in the morning especially if I train or go to the gym. So I always have to moisturise on the run (excuse the pun). This would save time and my skin. Plus I could share the love with hubby, it might just turn him into a big softie!

  3. My preference would be the Very Dry Skin and it’d help me to get ready and get out of the house for work each day being a single full-time working mum!

  4. Only a small amount goes a long way, I know I would get so much use out of Nivea’s In-Shower body lotion for my normal to dry skin.

  5. Like you somewhat eluded to, this Nivea In-Shower miracle would revolutionise my life! (well, my winter coat anyway)!!
I would choose the Rich option (simply because all things are better Rich, especially desserts)! And also because after the neglect my poor pins have suffered over recent weeks, I don’t think ‘Normal’ will cut it!

  6. normal to dry please it would put my skin through its paces and give it the workout it really needs,to look and feel brighter, smoother, and clearer.

  7. Normal to Dry please. Using this in the shower would reduce the amount of soap scum, so no more lenghty cleaning times having to scrub the shower clean!

  8. Normal to dry for me, and my body skin is so neglected just really don’t have the time or motivation once I get out of the shower

  9. I work in the Dive Industry, and as much as it is nice to moisturise, it is not nice in a wetsuit when the moisturiser mixes with water and leaves a film on the wetsuit. To be able to moisturise in the shower would be a blessing – thank you Nivea for this amazing concept, I look forward to trying it out on my normal to dry skin.

  10. I’m always on the run and having a beauty routine that is quick, works well and is inexpensive is important to me – NIVEA in-shower body lotion fits the bill – Normal to dry skin if you please

  11. Normal to dry skin – every morning I stand around in the cold waiting for my body moisturiser to dry before I get dressed – need to get my skin ready for summer and this new Nivea product sounds fab – and as we all know, anything Nivea is the best…….

  12. On cold, wintry days.
Warm shower moisuturing would be absolutely great!
Leggings and tights slipping on a glove.
Nivea. The busy woman’s first love!

  13. Nivea Skin Conditioner for very very very very very dry skin could save me looking like a parched barramundi all winter.

  14. Very dry. I just like the idea of moisturising whilst still in the warm shower, rather than in the cold air once I get out. Cold moisturising cream on just-out-of-the-shower warm skin is just not fun on a Winter morning.

  15. Normal-to-dry skin. This sounds like such a great idea because I hate having to put moisturiser on after I get dry from a shower it would actually save me time.

  16. As a woman ‘of a certain age’, my skin needs all the hydration it can get. And if the solution is money-saving and time-saving, then I’m onto a clear winner!

  17. With 4 kids under 5 I’m lucky if I get time to shower! Once I’m out it’s get dressed and help others! Being able to moisturise in the shower would be simply amazing!

  18. It’s so cold, I simultaneously freeze and heat when I have a shower. Moisturiser? Not a chance! Very dry skin is the result.

  19. Wonderful as I tend to skip the moisturising my very dry skin in winter becasue it’s too cold, after the shower I just want to get into some warm clothes as quick as I can.

  20. Dry skin in winter Boday wash that is soft and luxurious on my skin and can be used in the shower would be amazing especially for Mums like me who are time poor

  21. Normal to dry. Aren’t showers amazing places?! A place to wash, cleanse, shampoo, de-fuzz, meditate, relax, ponder and now moisturise!

  22. Very Dry Skin. I’m so time poor I tend to skip moistuizing my legs and arms as a result they have not seen the light of day for months! With spring fast approaching wish I were a snake and shed skin! the other non reptilian option is soaking them with in shower Nivea instead!

  23. My skin is very dry, and has been especially so this winter! It would help keep me more moisturised, and I wouldn’t have to get cold applying it *after* my shower!

  24. A dryness that makes me itch so much, you’d think I’ve got fleas, in shower moisturizer would help put it at ease!

  25. Very Dry skin is the one I’d like to try. It’d help me in many ways, mainly that I no longer feel like a dried out lizard, getting olde before her time.

  26. Normal skin. Be great for those days I’m in a rush (every day) and sometimes am a little naughty and forget to moisturise. This will kill two birds with one stone, I hope!

  27. I have a lot to do, I am a busy mother of two, cleaning,
cooking, ironing and work, driving them around going beserk, need sometime just
for me, with Nivea it’s my own luxury

  28. Would love to try this cool new product. The normal skin one for me! Such a time saver, I’m curious to see how well it works!

  29. A tried and true brand
    Nivea is always at hand
to make me feel my best
snug and warm in my nest
    Skin feeling soft and shiney
    Hubby happy likes me tidy
feel great after all these years
Nivea is with me through laughs and tears

  30. I have dry skin and find it particularly troublesome to apply lotions after I have a hot shower everyday as I get cold quickly in winter. This new Nivea In-Shower Body Lotion is a brilliant idea and perfect for me. Not only does it saves time, I don’t need to ever get cold while keeping my skin moisturised!

  31. Nivea for dry skin – I am a mum of 3 and working, there is little time for a beauty regime let alone a moisturising routine, this sounds just like what I need to fit into my busy lifestyle

  32. I don’t have any kids – but do have 2 new puppies who only leave me alone long enough to have a shower!! They both sit outside & watch closely (in case of surprise treat?!) so this would be great entertainment for them!! But mainly it would be a worthwhile product for me as they then try to LICK the body lotion off my legs when I apply it post-shower! This will get me through the new few months until they grow up a bit I hope! For dry skin would be my pref

  33. Nivea is one of my favourite Brands, the In-Shower Body Lotion from Nivea sounds perfect for my skin just thinking of the time I would save by being moisturized while having a shower puts a smile on my face.

  34. In the shower is the only place I don’t have the triplets hanging off me so if I can moisturise in there my skin may get soft again! This could be the answer to my prayers – well if it came with a nanny that too would really be my salvation! 😉

  35. normal to dry would be ideal for my skin, needs moisture constantly.love that its natural products and will keep my skin smelling lovely and nourished.

  36. Shower time is me time & now with the NIVEA In-Shower Body Lotion I’m going to enjoy and appreciate this time even more. Once I’m out of the shower it’s just go, go, go. What a fantastic time-saving, skin-saving idea.

  37. Having faced the fuzz and eventually shaved my legs I now bear a remarkable resemblance to Reptile Woman thanks to winter heating etc. I could really use the Nivea In-Shower Lotion (very dry) to smooth the rough and save time in the morning (especially as was unable to but it in my local outlet).

  38. although i dont intend to, but it takes me so long in the shower.. washing and exfoliating. my partner is always complaining. and then comes the step of moisturising. this amazing product would help me save time and effort and give me the soft smooth skin i am always dreaming of.

  39. I think the Nivea normal to dry in shower lotion is going to be perfect for extending the life of my spraytan’s …..so excited!

  40. I’d love to win the lotion for very dry skin. I have dry, scratchy, excema-ish skin and I have to put lotion on after every bath or shower, which as you imagine is a real chore! I’d love to see how this could change my routine!

  41. Move over ladies and allow a dried up prune through, so I can get my dry sandpaper hands on a bottle. ohhh yes that sound that you hear isn’t the rustling of Autumn leaves but the sound of me walking past. I am totally feeling this winters dryness more than ever, With my dehydrated working environment and two young girls, this is defiantly sounds like a miracle in a bottle for me !!!

  42. My skin in the winter and autumn months is dry and flaky, NIVEA In-Shower Body Lotion will save me so much time. I won;t be applying Lotion 2 or 3 times each time I apply it. My skin just soaks it up like water on a sponge.

  43. With those Autumn winds about to hit BrisVegas, I am going to be shopping for some super hydration. I would love to try the very dry skin product. And like most people reading this blog, a busy lifestyle, two kids and sometimes ignored husband, throw in the weekly flights to Central Queensland (which is really dry at the moment) and beyond, keeping the cleaning/moisturising to the shower will save me time! [email protected]

  44. I’d try the very dry skin lotion. Every shower is a rush having a toddler around and I never get the chance to moisturise afterwards and am left with dry, flaky, gross looking skin.

  45. With a little baby I hardly get time to take care of my skin. NIVEA In-Shower Body Lotion will definitely makes it easy for me to moisturise my skin while in the bath and my skin will thank me for this everyday.

  46. I’d love to try the Very Dry Skin moisturiser. I’ve had eczema all my life & have hated moisturising since I was a child. Now that I have a busy job, every minute of my morning routine is precious & this would be a wonderful time saver, and hopefully make my skin somewhat summer-ready!

  47. since moisturising is the step I always miss in my rush to get out the door in the morning, i thinknthis productbisca great idea.. .the nivea normal would speed up my day and my scaley legs would thank you

    [email protected]

  48. I’ve just had a baby so ‘me time’ is very rare at the moment, the Nivea products for dry skin would help out a lot in the shower, save me time so i can spend it with my daughter instead.

  49. I struggle in winter getting out of a nice hot shower, towel drying and then putting icy cold moisturiser over my body. The Nivea (Very Dry) formula would solve the dilemma…..do I moisturiser today or just scramble into my clothes???

  50. I would really like to try the ‘very dry’ formula. I have just entered my second trimester of pregnancy, and I’m terrified of stretch marks so I’m slathering my skin with any and all moisturisers I can get my paws on. I’d like to try this one as I’m tired of always being greasy from all the other moisturisers I’ve been putting on.

  51. as a mum, the daily stresses show on your skin, with being pregnant the hormones have made my skin itchy, dull and dry! this would most defiantly bounce it back to somewhat normal 🙂

    [email protected]

  52. I would love to try the normal-dry skin formula! I’m 37 weeks pregnant with my first child, and anything that makes it easier to look after my skin while I look after a newborn is a winner in my books 🙂

  53. With dry skin galore, Nivea will make showering more appealing,
Will give my skin that comforting feeling,
Being a Mummy that is always on the go, this product delivers zest,
Best of all, I will look and feel my very best,
Thanks to Nivea and its new invention,
    No more tension.

  54. Omigosh! Can I have a bottle of this in my tool bag when I change clients shower tap washers?? Ok… That might scare the client!! This is an answer to my beauty dilemma as a busy mum to young kids and early starts for work, I rarely have time to put on body moisturiser. Would love to win a bottle of the normal to dry skin. My skin will love you for it!!

  55. Snake Skin to Sensational in one swift move – sounds perfect Nivea. I’d probably need the heavy duty Very Dry version if chosen please 🙂

  56. Omg..I would love this. I have normal to dry skin, but just don’t seem to find the time to moisturize. Brilliant idea Nivea.

  57. Lazy girl find of the year!

I imagine 21 days of using this baby in the shower would fly by, thus easily creating a new habit in time for Spring! Normal dry for me x

  58. Like you, shower time is precious for me. Once I’m out there is no time for anything other than kids, work etc. So… An in shower product sounds perfect! I’d love to try the product for normal skin. Thanks for the tip!

  59. Focusing any attention to my body’s skin in Winter just does not happen, this ingenious in-shower solution could change that in one swift move!

  60. This would be so good, one less jar in my swim/gym bag. Ticks 2 boxes. I would love to try the dry skin variety, please.

  61. My legs in winter look like a snake scale. What a brilliant idea from Nivea. This new product would mean my skin would be soft and moisturised year round without the extra step of another product after shower.

  62. I’m a bit smitten with my Nivea Skin Firming Body Lotion but can vouch for how generally awesome Nivea products are.

  63. ok, so I was reading the image in the normal left-to-right, top-to-bottom way and wondering why on earth you would have to dry yourself, then apply, then rinse then loofa LOL!!!

Now that I see its a clockwise deal – I am on board!!!

  64. I’ve just started a new job and am in rush, rush, rush mode!! This would be a huge time-saver for me!!! If chosen, the Normal to Dry one would be great!! Thanks for the opportunity!

  65. I once accidentally brushed Megan Gale’s arm and her beautiful soft skin made me very envious. I’d love my skin to feel like that, but who has the time every day to apply moisturiser and wait for it to be absorbed? The normal to dry would be great for me to try to achieve my goal.

  66. My partner pulled my stockings away from my leg and when they snapped back on my skin a white cloud of dead skin puffed out! Enough said! Very dry for me please 🙂

  67. Dry skin moisturiser for me please, I am the moisturiser queen, use it after every shower, so would love to try a product that lets me moisturise quicker.

  68. New baby means showers have become super fast! Anything that saves me time is a bonus!! I think I have normal skin ( unless I have no time to moisturizer then it becomes dry) so I’d give that one a try 🙂

  69. Wow that looks amazing,it is one thing i never skip though because i would resemble a snake shedding it’s skin!
I would like the Very Dry one,it would stop me from shivering to death while i apply said moisturizer to my whole body so i do not leave skin flakes on my clothes, winning idea ,love it!

  70. What a fab idea!!! Well done Nivea!! i have 2 kids under 2.5yo and having a shower is a luxury in itself and Moisturising is a thing of the past, so this fab new product would be a HUGE welcome & luxury in my household! I would love to try normal to dry 🙂

  71. I would definitely need the very dry skin lotion. It is well known you should apply moisturiser to moist skin so this is taking time saving to a whole new level. I am always in such a rush, particularly in the mornings and have recently taken to applying my hair conditioner with my shampoo which seems to be working just fine for me, so any new time saving beauty regime would be very much welcomed.

  72. I’d like to try the normal-dry option, though I’m not sure about using my shoes to apply it (a ‘loafer’?) 😉 I love a good shower and this product will ensure that I actually moisturise my body every day!

  73. I would love to try the very dry lotion. I developed a type of psoriasis randomly late last year which turned into the permanent kind this year. After 3 months of UV light therapy sessions is all but gone nut I need to keep the moisture up to my skin in order to prevent future outbreaks. I’ve never been great at doing that so anything that might make it easier would be awesome!

  74. Love this idea. I almost never moisturise and feel bad about it but I would if it could be done in the shower. extra dry sounds great

  75. This sounds like a product my brain has tried to dream of! I would love to give this a try. I like the sound of the sea minerals so normal to dry. Fingers crossed, otherwise I’m off to Priceline.

  76. My skin is so thirsty and dry and being a busy mum a in shower moisturiser would be so convenient to moisturise in the shower, leaving of one job when I get out.
    For very dry skin

  77. Would love to try Nivea in shower body lotion for very dry skin. If it delivers my skin would feel like satin instead of sandpaper and that would have to put the pep in my step for the day ahead…
