You know that thing when you decide on a new car model you’d like to buy? The thing where you start seeing that very same make and model EVERYWHERE?
Well, it’s happening with me and leather.
I mentioned it yesterday but today it happened again. Fashion week outfits based around a leather garment dominated.
Everywhere I turned at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week* today, I saw leather (real and fake).
Leather skirts, leather trimmed or fronted pants, full-leather pants, leather frocks, leather skirts, leather shorts … on the runway and off it, it seems too much leather is nowhere near enough.
If it were a little bit cooler, I suspect we’d be seeing a lot of jackets as well.
What’s the appeal?
It’s part rock-chic, part classic and the new way to wear leather is to work it back with something very much in textural contrast.
Think leather skirt with a t-shirt; leather pants with a silk shirt.
It’s this contrast and the use that immediately lifts the outfit up a few notches from where it would be without the inclusion of leather.
I was back on the bandwagon again today, once again wearing Luxe Deluxe ponte pants. This time with the leather just in a thin strip down each side of the leg.
It makes for a different look from the leather front pants of yesterday. I think those ones are still the front runners for a post-fashion week purchase.
Oh, and I stepped out of the boots for the day and into some very comfortable and eco-friendly plastic platforms from Mel. A bit of fun to pop my “uniform” with a bit of colour.

Beauty note
Today’s limited edition We Are Handsome Maybelline New York Color Sensational Vivids lipstick of choice was Vivid Rose.
Think fuchsia with hot neon undertones. Once on the lips it blends with my natural lip colour to be even deeper. Love.
Maybelline NY has collaborated with designers We Are Handsome to release three limited edition lipsticks (available at Woolworths and Coles until June, 2013 $16.95).
Now, I have to show you my nails too.
The lovely Amy from the Essie Australia team whipped them back into line between shows and finished them with a gorgeous grey/brown neutral, Chinchilly.

How true is the sizing in those pants, Nikki? Too tight and I gain an extra roll around my waist.
No, don’t go up … you need to have them firm and consider going down in size. The way the band is it doesn’t create muffin (also high waist). I’m usually a 16 in pants and wearing a 14.
This leather & faux leather u talk of… Is it black only?
That’s the main colours seen around Dianne and if you’re investing in leather for winter, that’s what I would go for.
I love that Essie colour – my next purchase!
It’s going strong today!
I love your outfit and obsessed with that nail colour Nikki!
Thanks so much – yes, loving the nail colour! Popping up a post soon that shows what they added to this colour for the Michael Lo Sordo show last night!
You look great Nikki! I love the leather trend especially when mixed with the softer tops/shirts. I am going to stretch my budget to buy something real leather this season (obviously shoes & bags excluded). Very excited!! I also love that nail colour – just the colour you need when you are not sure what colour to go with.
I know Kelly, I’m going to embrace the budget around this trend as well. I will trot it out again every winter regardless!
I love this outfit on you and the pop of colour in your shoes,Lovely Nikki, you must purchase that silk shirt if you haven’t already done so,love it,and you could layer it as well.I have long been a fan of that nail colour not that exact brand but OPI over the taupe and I recently bought a gel colour in the same hue,it goes with everything and looks chic as well, winning colour me thinks!
Yes, I had that OPI colour too … it does work with everything! And not sure which shirt I’ll buy at the end of the week. Will choose one though!
Just looked at the Zambezee website – great clothes but a bit too expensive for me.
They are designer labels Nicolee with quality that reflects that. Look in your favourite chain stores for similar styles.
Will do. Love the outfit but spending close to $600 is not within my means. Any recommendations for a chain store copy (especially the pants) would be great.
Try Seed and Witchery.
I recently bought a pair of black leggings with leather down the side and totally love them. They are the comfiest thing ever and look amazing on.
Love that nail colour too by the way.
The comfort thing has been such a good move for me this week!
Love today’s outfit. The pants and shirt really balance each other out. You look great.
Thanks so much Sarah.
