The Fashion Week outfits 2013: Day 2

Nikki Parkinson Everyday Style, Fashion 32 Comments

If there is one fashion garment that is very thick on the ground (or should that be the legs) this week at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week*, it is the leather or leatherette pant.

Leather or leatherette skirts are running a close second.

Yes, in case you’ve been hiding under a fashion rock, all things leather or leather-look are back with a vengeance.

And who am I not to jump on that bandwagon?

Well, actually I did question whether I was a little on the, ahhemm, mature side to be doing any jumping, bandwagon or not.

But that was for approximately 4.5 seconds.

By the 5 second mark, I had fallen head over legs in love with these Luxe Deluxe leather pants. They’re leather up the front; ponte up the back which adds up to an uber comfortable style combo.

And as has already been mentioned, this year I’m all about the comfort factor for my fashion week outfits.

Also, look away if you’re not a fan of doubling up on styles that you love. Because doubled up I definitely did today.

I cannot tell you how beautiful these Mela Purdie shirts are to wear. The fabric is man-made but it’s like a silk on steroids, allowing your skin to breathe in a way usually associated with a cotton or pure silk.

The reason for my neutral stance?

Those Zoe Kratzmann boots, that’s what.

Let me tell you a bit of a story about those boots. Remember how I told you how so many fashionista types strut around like peacocks hoping to be dressed beautifully or theatrically enough to be photographed?

Well, blow me down if I wasn’t asked for a photo today. I actually looked around to see if they were calling out to someone else. Not so, it was me they were after … well, not me exactly … more my boots.

The photographer was working for Style Tread, which has the boots for sale, and they were keen to capture them. This will console me should I see myself on social media or the Style Tread site … minus my head.

I’m ok, really. Those boots are the stuff off shoe-robe dreams.

Someone pinch me now.

Beauty note

Too much lippy pop is so not enough this week and today I puckered up for the Hot Plum shade from the limited edition We Are Handsome Color Sensational Vivids lipsticks from Maybelline New York.

This strong pink has a violet undertone which sits on my lips for the perfect lip statement. The colour hold is good. I still need touch-ups during the day after eating and drinking but in between it lasts without drying out my lips.

Maybelline NY has collaborated with designers We Are Handsome to release three limited edition lipsticks (available at Woolworths and Coles until June, 2013 $16.95).

  1. You look gorgeous. 🙂
I’ve been in love with the faux leather leggings for a little while. Made my friends who bought $80+ Black Milk ones jealous by buying my perfectly good ones from The Reject Shop 🙂

  2. You look amazing Nikki! You’re giving me the courage to try leather pants!! It’s all about the right shirt and those Mela Purdie ones look fab. And those boots! Awesome stuff 🙂

  3. Hi Nikki, your outfit looks great. I dont think $299 is expensive at all for a nice pair of leather pants, those people gagging ot this price would drop dead at what i paid for my Helmut Lang leather leggings! They are meant to be a once in a lifetime purchase. E
njoy fashion week, i am watching for the watson x watson show. love it!

  4. Another great outfit Nikki – the whole thing looks so put together but comfortable at the same time. I am sure it is why we all love it so much – thanks for sharing!! I might take a little drive to the Sunshine Coast and have a look at these tops & pants!

  5. I love your oufits and especially those Mela Purdie shirts they look beautiful on you Nikki, and those boots gorgeous! I am so glad those pants are in Fashion I have a pair I bought a couple of years ago and have only worn them once, when I did my wardrobe edit I kept them as they are a little dressier than normal ponte pants and I am so glad I did,I am going to wear them heaps this year ,mine have leather panels in the front and the rest is ponte fabric, and they look dressy on.l would not wear a leather skirt as skirts are not my thing, but the pants yes please, just shows that current trends can be adapted to every age 🙂 Love that you got photograhed too, told you you deserved a peacock moment!

  6. This is a great outfit. I was so impressed I clicked through to have a look at the products. Then I nearly choked on my coffee at the prices. They’re beautiful, though.

    1. Hi Tasmin, yes everyone has a different fashion budget. Me, I’ll be picking one pants (definitely these pair) and one top (undecided as yet) to add as my winter staples. I’ll get more out of buying two garments like this than clogging my wardrobe with lots of cheaper options. It’s something that’s taken me a long time to get my head around but since I did this, my wardrobe may not offers as many options but everything in it works for me.

      1. I actually do the same thing! But slightly cheaper than that (more the $100 mark) and I’m a big fan of sales 😉 I’m working on cleaning out my wardrobe using your tips as well.

      2. Have to agree with you there….few good quality staples make all the difference. Just in the process of reassessing my wardrobe thanks to your boot camp.

  7. oh man, I am still lusting after the boots! Love the outfit…I invested in a leather skirt this season, looking forward to bringing her out to play often this year and for many years to come!

  8. Love this look on you! Right, see you later. I’m off to the supermarket to grab those lippies!

I’ve bought some Country Road ponte leather trimmed leggings – I’ve got the neutrals covered – black, navy and latte. You may get sick of seeing them all over IG because I think they’ll be on high rotation! x

  9. I have been umm-ing and ahh-ing over the Zoe Kratzmann curators for a fortnight now… U
    I think you’ve sold me!
