Shopping confessions: the winter sales edition

Well, hello there. I didn’t expect to be doing another Shopping Confessions post so soon.

After all, there is the teensy matter of my trip to New York in … drum roll please … 42 days. Yes, that is six weeks. Eeeeeek.

But. I was given a Country Road gift card for my birthday, wasn’t I?

And I do like to get a bit of extra value out of a gift card. No better time to grab that extra value than during the end-of-season sales time. Especially the part of end-of-season sales time where they take an extra 25% off the marked price.

Which is what I found myself taking advantage of at the end of last week.

Once in store I kept to my Sale Shopping Strategy and quickly worked my way through the store, with a plan to find a semi-corporatey type dress that I could add to my wardrobe ahead of next week’s trip to Sydney (I’m presenting three days of blogging workshops to a corporate client).

I narrowed said dresses down to a black fitted ponte dress, a green shift dress and this sleeveless tunic.

Country Road burnt orange v-neck shift dress was $129; now $44.96

My reasoning went something a little like this. The black dress was perfect but with heavy fabric and three-quarter sleeves it would not have as much versatility as this shift in Queensland. The green was beautiful. Loved it. It just wasn’t on sale and I would have had to spend above my voucher. Something I wasn’t keen on doing given the whole New York in 42 days thing.

But the orange … the orange was just perfect. I can wear it back with any sleeve length I like, it will work beautifully with tights and boots and, well, it is … ORANGE

Once that was settled and I realised that … HUZZAH … there were still dollars left over on my gift card. So I skimmed around the store again and added these two items at the checkout.

Country Road silk blend rib tank was $59.95, now $22.46

This tank may look like it’s made for a teeny, tiny person but it stretches like nobody’s business and is perfect for layering under my slub and over-sized tees to add a bit of colour. And as for the below purchase. You can never have too many neutral bamboo lightweight scarves, can you?

Country Road silk blend rib tank was $59.95, now $29.96

Let’s do the maths here … not that I’m a maths whizz … but I am a purchase justifications whizz. Together all these items would have cost me $248.90 at full price. Instead I paid $97.38 (well, I didn’t even pay that did I? On account of gift card and all).

That, I believe, dear Shopping Stylers, is what we in the shopping business call a bargain.

So, you know how these Shopping Confessions posts work, don’t you?

Yes, I’m now handing it over to you … let the comments section be your shopping confessional. Tell me what you’ve bought lately?

Share something lovely … fashion pieces, makeup, skincare, something nice for the house. Was it a bargain?

Are you ready to CONFESS and SHARE? You can even upload a photo in the comments, did you know that?
