MBFWA Backstage Beauty: Maybelline NY for Johanna Johnson

After watching the Johanna Johnson show tonight I’m convinced that too much lace, sequins, feathers and diamantes is never enough. Especially when teamed with satin.

Oh, so luxe and oh, so covetable … well, if I were tall and svelte 😉

The Johanna Johnson Luxur Collection for 2012 celebrates hand-crafted finishes. The kind of bespoke additions to gowns that were the norm in cocktail and ball gowns of past.

Glamour doesn’t get any more glamourous than this.

The challenge for Maybelline makeup artist Nigel Stanislaus was to reflect the glamour, to enhance it but not over-power it. I think he nailed it with a strong smokey eye that was given a little bespoke treatment of his own with at touch of gold shimmer.

Nigel’s hot tip for translating this look to the everyday (or night): embrace the next season’s metalic trends and add a little gold to the corners of your eyes or on the brow bone. Yes, I think I’m up for that!

The key products you’ll need are Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bold Gold ($11.95, out in July) and Expert Wear Eye Shadow Quad in Give Me Gold ($16.95). Too simple.
